My First Pinball Project, My Only Pinball Project, My Last Pinball Project!

Well I finally got a chance to bring home my Champion Pub Pinball Project last night. I took a big gamble and started buying parts for this (included all new board & a mint back glass) without even really seeing the game in detail. I just really took someones word for it, which he has been a great guy since I met him, so what the hell. I guess I can thank God now that the playfield & cabinet is in good shape and all the wiring seems to look like its there and intact. This might take me a few years to get to up & running, but looks like a fun pin on you tube and as much as I play my games or my other pin I sure I won't get board of it lol.

Like stated this is my first pin project, so any help with parts or tech advice or putting it together for me would be great.

Here is what I bought so far

1. New Glass, 2. (NOS) Arms, 3. Back Glass, 4. Punch Ramp Set, 5. (NOS) Side Lane Plastics 6. (NOS) Back Box Side Art, 7. Boards "WPC95 AV, MPU095, WDB095", 8. Champion Pub Chips "68BOE Microprocessor & WPC Asic

P.S. Is there any way I can burn the game rom 1.6 and sound roms for this?

Pics are here if anyone cares to see it http://www.flickr.com/photos/dnsgames4sale/

I said I would not have more than two. I don't even consider this one a pin right now. Do you know long it will take me to get this up & running! My Whirlwind will probably be gone before it happens, thats how long lol.

I thought your one pin was enough??? ;)

Congrats! You should get a Whitewater, . . . and then invite me over!

Champion Pub is a pretty fun game. If you can find a copy, I recommend clay's guides for all sorts of restoration topics. Based on your list of games you probably are coming in to this with some good repair and restoration skills.

In general on my project pins I've always tried to get the game mostly working before beginning the actual restoration. This gives you a chance to identify parts to order & catch problems that might only show up in gameplay. Once this is done I strip the entire top side of the playfield, pull it from the cabinet and do an inch by inch cleaning and restoration of the underside - clean every wire, replace coil sleeves, replace targets take care of mechanical issues etc. Same goes for all the topside parts too. Once this is done I move to the playfield's topside to clean, touch up, polish, wax etc. I can recommend simple green for cleaning the playfield grime and the polishing kit from Treasure Cove. The Novus products are also very good, but I usually use 2 and 1 for normal cleaning once done.

While the pf is out I'll normally pull the boards and handle any cabinet issues like split corners, fresh paint on the head. Once everything is perfect I will install the playfield and begin to repopulate it.

Good luck, and post pictures!

Do you live close? Sounds like your the type of person I need around here. I have knowledge in the arcade machine department, but 0 in the pinball department. I can't see myself doing all that even though it sounds great & all. I'm going to try to do what I can, but I'm in hopes that a nice person will come help me out and can in return I can offer some arcade parts. Someone suggested using Spray Nine to clean the playfield & cabinet.

I live in Alexandria VA, I if you need some help one weekend (not this weekend) I could come over and help. I do own a Treasure Cove Polishing Kit. Additionally, my current line up (with 4 pins from a friend) is:
The Shadow
Diner
Fish Tales
Creature from the Black Lagoon
Fun House
The Getaway HSII
Revenge from Mars
Stern Spiderman
White Water
Stargate
Scared Stiff

That would be great. If you feel like helping me or I should say I can help you, tear down the playfield and clean it. I think if I can get that done and put back together I should be able to install the rest of the stuff as I get it. I'm not ready to do a tear down by myself right now.

With the exception of the Stern Spiderman, every game that I have purchased needed some repair. My FH was a complete basket case (dead game). I would recommend getting the CP working 100 percent, a quick clean up (not complete disassemble) and play it for a while. The purpose of playing it for a while is to make sure no other issues "pop" up. Once you know the game is 100 percent, then you do a detailed clean. I follow this approach, that way I can isolate a new problem with the game to something that I might have done during the shop job.

Just my thoughts,

Tom

That sound good. The playfiled on here is not that dirty so I think a good wipe down would work. I also bought all new boards for it and working on getting the sound & game rom now. I'll PM you my info. I order some missing items now.

Just sold my Pub Last year

Hey Darryl

You can do it? Just take your time and clean it piece by piece and make sure you label
and take good notes as too where everything goes. And then pitit back together accordingly.
Wish I were closer I would have you bring it here and I would shop out for you free?

Good Luck,Dave L.
