The arcade gods smiled down upon me in ways I never thought imaginable this weekend. I spent my entire weekend off delivering a couple of games for a friend. Yesterday I had to drive to Albany, NY to drop off a Neo Geo "on the way" to help another friend work on some games. We all know how that goes. If you are going to get lost it's probably dropping off a game "on the way" somewhere and I did.

Today, I was scheduled to go to hell on earth, AKA Boston to deliver an Altered Beast to another guy.

I am a wicked girl driver when I have to deliver games. I HATE it. I have a Nissan Pathfinder and it is next to impossible to see anything. It is non stop stress from the moment I leave until the god damn thing is out of my car. It is like this for the entire trip. I would take a week in prison over game delivery.

So that is how I spent my weekend off.

Flash back to yesterday, I was in the middle of one of the above mentioned episodes when my phone rings. Well, I was screaming like a little bitch so I couldn't answer it. My god, what would people think? What of my bad ass reputation?

I pulled over to check my voicemail and it's a friend of the guy I was going to Boston to meet, "Hey my buddy has a centipede and a galaga 88 and he needs to get rid of them. Are you interested? It's right down the street from where you are dropping off the game tomorrow"

Interested? Hell yes, I am interested. My buddy buying the Altered Beast has been looking for a Centipede and who wouldn't want a Galaga 88.

So fast forward to today. After a few more screaming episodes I arrive in Beantown. Walk into the first op's garage and he asks if I have a Jamma tester, I said no and he sold me this BAD ASS PUPPY! This alone made the entire trip worth it, but oh yeah, I am going to look at a Galaga 88.

So we leave house 1 to go over to house 2 to look at the Centipede and the 88, walk up take a look, my friend is cool with the Centipede, I am cool with the Galaga, we pay the man, load up our cars and ride off into the sunset.

As you can imagine my trip home, which for most would have been filled with extreme joy was a little overwhelming. I got lost, I got passed by a woman in her nineties, and I was almost hit by falling debris from a fire truck (don't ask)

The game is in fab shape. I think it may be an actual dedicated version, but will know more tomorrow. Sorry for the crappy little cell phone pic. I will upload some high res beauties tomorrow. I haven't fired it up yet.

What an awesome weekend (screaming and all)!

Sweet '88. That cab looks legit. It's the right shape. I had a Dragon Spirit and bought a Galaga '88 board for it. Anyways, that's the right cab. Wrong joystick, though. :)

Thanks guys. I honestly don't know which I am more excited about, the test kit or the Galaga. I feel like I am always reading about other collector's crazy finds and it finally happened to me. Don't get me wrong I have found great deals, but this was just wicked unexpected. It literally fell into my lap.

The test kit is beyond nuts. I was planning on building a bench for my new studio and this is perfect. The seller lost the top of the case, which is kind of a bummer, but I am hoping to find a new case and I plan on installing an LCD in the top for portable testing.

The Galaga cab is in great shape. The CPO is really nice for its age. There is a little cracking and some cig melts, but overall nice. There are two atari manufacturer's stickers on the back. One is labeled URxxx and the other Galgxxx

The white is coming through and the remnants of the old sideart are there and seem to be located in the right place.

What should I get to remove the black paint? Any tips?

so that's why i didn't get my topper ;-)

Tester is awesome, i noticed it has -5 setting and was made by capcom

Broodwich, the kit was made by Biederman Design Labs for Capcom. This was the rig they gave their techs.

It is pretty much a mobile test bench. I won't have to build or do anything really except replace the case and add an LCD.

Shame Shame Melissa. You came all the way to Albany and didn't stop by to buy something from me. There has got to be something on my list you are interested in. Its been a long time since you bought that first Dig Dug. I think it is time to grab something else and help me make space for some more. :)

Nice grab on the other stuff. The 88 is a hard game to come by, especially dedicated.

Mike,

I wasn't in Albany to buy, just to drive around lost for two hours with a Neo Geo in my back seat. I didn't even get to help Ed out like I had hoped.

I am heading out to Ed's on Wednesday. I am hoping to help him with a few games and maybe pick up an Area 51 for a friend in NH. Will you be around? I would love to see your setup.

I am all set on games for a while unless you have a Punch Out hidden somewhere ;) That Dig Dug is still getting a TON of play! I can't believe it's almost been a year.

Galaga '88 is a great game to add to any collection, either just starting out or one that's 'seasoned.' I think it is the closest any of the sequels got to duplicating the fun of the original Galaga. I play it whenever I dig out my Turbografx-16 (it had a great port).

You also have a very nice vertical JAMMA cabinet to throw games in and out. A 60-in-1 would give your arcade a bunch of titles to play. If you have any other favorite vertical JAMMA boards, get those too.

I hope you can find some art underneath the paint.

Great score

Neat testing rig! I'd love something like that for my bench.. Hoping to set up Something that will give me a medium res and normal res signal so I can test monitors.. Very cool

Yeah, wrong stick on the 88.. If you can find a picture of the right one, your more than welcome to dig through all my sticks for a replacement.

Great looking tester and great looking Galaga '88! That cab/game is well worth having. Congrats!

Thanks guys. I spent over 12 hours this weekend in my car delivering a friend's games for him. These pickups really made the weekend worth it. What a truly awesome and unexpected surprise on both counts.

Nerdy rocks! Definitely does not think about herself when it comes to this hobby. Hooked me up with a great deal on my Altered Beast plus other misc parts. And hooked me up with a killer deal on a Centipede (the woman was happy!) There should be a feature for brownie points on here somewhere! :-D

So jealous of that test rig! Galaga 88 rocks hardcore!

Very nice...

I've never seen that before. They were probably all gone before I my time at capcom. I didn't work for the arcade side, I just like to hang out over there and see what the last technician there was always working on...

I like the patern test generator. I've thought about including something like that in my own test rig but I realized that I personally just like to keep a CPS2 board handy so that I ahve the test grid and color bars for sizing, balencing colors and even fiddling with convergence.
