So I just picked up this beauty about a week ago from a couple of really nice folks just north of me who had heard through a string of friends that I restore this stuff.

It was in the basement that it had been sitting in for most of its life. From what I was told it has had just two private owners in their family, and the cab had all of the paperwork and manuals intact right down to the original bags, shipping tags, and receipts. Paid $250.

It had a problem where it would go to gray screen after being on for a hour or so, but after re-seating a few chips last night, replacing the big blue, and cleaning the AR it appears to work perfectly. I'm in the process of refreshing the trackball a bit, and giving the entire thing a good cleaning. Snapped a couple of pics while I was in progress of doing just that in the workshop last night. I'll take some more when it's back together. The side art and CP are really, really nice.

Only 4421 on the coin counter! :)

Congrats on the nice pickup, Crystal Castles has awesome cab art, fun game but doesn't get a lot of love. a true underrated classic

CC has always been one of my favorite games. I have a cocktail.

There was always something about the warmth in the sound effects that I liked.

nice, mine is about the same condition...but some dumb ass put a lockbar on it, so there is two small holes in the front.

What's interesting is that despite the nearly perfect cab, spotless interior, and the fact it hasn't left the family, it isn't 100% original due to a sketchy monitor service call.

Supposedly the monitor "had problems" about 12 years ago, so they called a random coin-op service and repair guy out of the phone book. They tell me that the guy came down, poked around in back of the machine for 10 minutes, said "The monitor is dead, but I have a spare in my truck we can put in.", and replaced the existing monitor with a Galaga burn filled G07 and charged them $25. The tech obviously left with the "bad" monitor.

It's not too bad, but it is hilariously out of place to have this perfect CC sitting here with Galaga burn due to that. I'll toss a nice one in after the new year most likely.

Don't you hate that? I had an Atari Blasteroids for a little while that for some unknown reason had not one, but two short and stubby, but massive lockbars stuck on it, adding even more weight to an already awkwardly heavy game. The sets of massive holes always bothered me, since these things were secured by lugs large enough to down small aircraft.

Nice game. I love it not that good at it. Been looking for a nice one my self but no luck yet. nice find great looking cab too.

Surprised they got that exchange for $25. I charge $125 for an on site monitor exchange.

Does the original receipt show the purchase price? Interested in knowing what it cost 30 some years ago...
