I saw a local CL ad a few days ago for a Taito Double Axle game. The ad stated that the monitor was dead, but I figure it's free so I'll call. The guy answers and tells me that someone else is on the way but asks for my name and number if he's a no-show. 45 minutes later the phone rings and the game is mine.

I picked it up that evening and hauled it to a friends house and damn is it heavy. We plugged it in and the marquee lit up and the monitor had high voltage but no game, no coinup, nothing. The next evening I opened it up to check it out. The power supply fan had a piece of cardboard keeping it from operating and the switch was gone.

I tested the voltage at the boards and as I figured dead. I pulled the power supply and found it full of change. It seems some little kid put coins in it through the hole the switch used to be in. Found a blown fuse, but everything looked OK. I installed a switch, a new fuse and new fan.

Tonight I reinstalled the PS and Voila!!!! It came to life. It all works and the "dead monitor" looks great and has no burn. I cleaned it up some and it's not too bad for a free game.

I'll post pics tomorrow night as I forgot to take them.

Game......free
switch and fuse 3.75
change from in the machine about 2 bucks.

By far the cheapest game for me at $1.75 as it sits. - Barry

Awesome man, Sounds like your getting the hang of fixing these things. Nothing better than finding the problem and fixing it yourself.

Not sure but you might be able to get other taito z system games and play them on there. Probably not Battle shark, but other racing games on the hardware.

Here's a few pics........ so I guess it did happen? - Barry

My initial thought was to turn and burn it and sell it to some crazed monster truck fan, but it's actually kind of fun. It's over at a friends house right now so I'll bring it home and see if my daughter likes to play it or not. Then it's fate will be decided. - Barry

IIRC I really liked this game for some reason but I can't even really remember the game play on it. Definetely good freebie.

I guess it happened then...
