I haven't powered it up yet but I did my first flyback swap today. What a learning experience! It was definitely shot. Not only did the black plastic casing crack at the top, the metallic log-like thing that wraps around the body had also broken into 3 pcs. I still have some more parts to swap but I'm glad the flyback's done as that is what put my Tempest in intensive care :(

I hope you remembered to use the heat grease before you soldered the thing in place. It's the same stuff you use on chassis mounted transistors.

Another Tempest on the road to recovery. Good job.

did it on my wgv1001 space zap and just took a pic of all the wiring on the underneat, removed it and fitted the other using the pic i took for reference as there were diodes etc on the legs, turned on,got that lag where you have to wait for the monitor to show pic,it came on and i breathed a sigh of relief.

I hope I end up with the same good luck.

so is it working yet jim???

Sigh, trying to be the good little KLOV'er, I'm trying to hold off until I get to swap the other HV components out on the board that came in the care package from Bob Roberts. My wife worked the 3-11PM shift last night so I couldn't get near my soldering iron. I could only imagine what would happen if I spread out all of the parts on the table and powered up the iron with my 2 kids around. My son is like human velcro- anything he gets near is automatically attached to his hand. :(
