This was my first custom modded NES. It's the Murdered-Out Style as referred to by Rob Dyrdek on MTV's Rob & Big or Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory. It's just a case mod. Everything black. Looks powder coated. Also, in the true fashion of the style...disabled the red power LED. The LED thing wasn't the best idea though so I had to be sure to have a picture of the system functioning. I sold this about two years ago. I actually got more for it than a normal working system which kinda suprised me. Check out the pics and tell me what you think...

I took everything apart, replaced the 72 pin connector, disabled the LED and painted all of the exterior parts. So yes, I just painted it. It was my first console mod and the NES looked horrible the way it was oiginally. It was just a way to make an almost unsellable machine into something I could get someone to buy. I never modded things that were fine the way they were. After this, I made a custom pink cased original Nintendo DS and a completely see-through PSP-1001.

I agree.

When I read "mod" I thought you had actually done some hardware modifications like the guy who posted a while back who turned his NES into a Supergun.

Kudos on the clean paint job though. Though, I prefer the original as is. :)

I've done a few paint jobs on DSs and Guitar Hero face plates in the past as well. It's fun if you get a used one that has a lot of scratches.

EDIT: Found the NES Supergun thread. This guy was hardcore.

Yeah, my NES was almost unbearable to look at. It was very yellowed and so dirty it was almost brown. No amount of cleaning solution could cure it (you can see the industrial strength Spitfire bottle in the background of one of the pix).

I saw that super gun too. That's a lot of work and I am not that skilled with the soldering iron.

Yeah, I forget what causes the yellowing of old consoles and PCs. It's the type of plastic and when it's exposed to UV?

Anyway, yeah, I wasn't trying to come down on your work, just wasn't what I was expecting. I'm sure it looks much better now than it did before. :)

Yep. There is a method called "RetroBright" that will reverse the coloring. It can be a lot of work though. It involves mixing some chemicals together and soaking the plastics in the chemical solution in direct sunlight for a day or 2. You can also make or buy a gel that you paint onto the plastic to put in direct sunlight.

Hey man I think it looks clean.. yeah it's a simple job but also one that's easy to screw up imo

I have another question for you and thats if the paint filled in any scratches in the plastic or did you have to fill them in?

Actually it filled them all in. It wouldn't fill in the deep scratches in the controller pads though. I didn't take pictures of the matching controllers (hind sight is always 20/20).

I think maybe the colors are light grey and dark grey. It's just a very light grey. The Famicom is white and red. I looked at a picture comparing the two his morning and the NES is definitely light grey.
