Hey guys,

I'm super excited to pick up my first true arcade classic cab, Galaga tomorrow morning. Just wanted to get some expert advice. The cab seems to be in good condition but there is nothing displayed on the monitor when powered on and it's missing the monitor bezel. Guy doesn't know what's wrong and wants it gone. I talked him down to $200. Is it a fair price and how hard would it be to find a bezel? Seems no big arcade art shops carry it :(

Thanks for the help :)

If you can hear sounds while its on I would buy it and run. Theres lots of knowledgable monitor people here that can provably guide you to fixing it if it is "playing blind". You can check and see if it is by tryibg to coin up the game, pushing start and trying to play as if the monitor was working. Just listen for the appropriate sounds.

I know someone ran the cocktail bezels a while back, not sure if the full size one has been done.

At least in my area, 200 for one playing with a dead monitor would be a secent deal. Seems like working ones in Dallas only go for 600+.

Thanks for the advice :)

$600 is a steal compared to what they go up here in Canada. People sell them restored with a 60 in 1 board for over $1400.

Putting a douche-in-1 board in a game is not "restoring" it, just like putting an LCD in isn't. I'm all for people making appropriate use of their available space but putting in a 100$ board and charging 1300$ for a nice cabinet is to put it mildly.....horseshit.

I may be speaking out of turn here but I believe Darrin may have galaga bezels by the end of the Summer.

Yeah I agree fully. I suppose they prey on people that don't know any better. I actually inquired on of these cabinets just for fun and threw a wack of questions at the guy. Seeing that I know what I am talkin about, he hasn't returned my email.

I'm looking forward to restoring this Galaga. It will be a learning experience and I will be asking a lot of questions soon enough, I'm sure. I figured I couldn't ask for better support than the members on this forum :)

So I am back from my pick up and man what a trip. I ended up in front of some hoarder's front yard pulling the machine from the inside of a trailer.!! Then he proceeds to talk me into buying an old Ford F150 after I told him I like restoring these games. Like, WTF? What does one have to do with the other? but I suppose there's no harm in asking lol.

Anyhow, after a 5 hour round trip and skipping work today, here it is. It needs some serious work as the bottom rear portion is starting to give way so I need to do some woodwork to make it solid before proceeding. It will be a long project anyhow. I promissed the wife this is the last one until we purchase our house. So far she has not given me grief.......YET!!!!

Enjoy:

That is a really coin high meter reading for a non-driving game.
