I finished my first cap kit tonight on my WG7602.

I reconnected the chassis and hooked everything back up. Then I fired it up, listened for sizzle and looked for smoke.... Nothing. Took a look at the screen and there was life! I was thrilled.
All is not perfect though...

There seems to be a slight buzzing from the board neat the HV unit. I don't recall if it was there before or not. I took a video to record the sound. Is it normal or did I do something to it when I had the board out?

The other issue is that there appears to still be a slight waviness in the screen. It was there before the recapping and I though that should've taken care of it... Any suggestions as to what might be causing it?
Here is a video of my Robocop's attract mode. I'm not sure it comes through that well in the video. Does anyone see anything "off" with the display or anything?

Thanks

does your cab still have the ground lug on the power plug that plugs into the wall

if not try removing the monitor frame ground wire and see if the waves go away

i just did a 4600 and the plug ad the ground lug removed if i had the frame wire hooked up the monitor would shimmy
if i dosconnected it it would not

as soon as i replaced the power plug on the game my problem went away even with the ground wire hooked to the monitor frame

Indeed I do, there's the crack by the focus control...

I'd be willing to bet that if you turned out the lights and turned on the machine you'd see sparks jumping through that crack in sequence with the buzzing...

Just placed an order with Bob.

Thanks for the diagnosis help guys. :)

Now, are there any tips or tricks you can share about removing it safely from the board?

Thanks for the tip. ;)

I was able to remove the flyback from the main board.

The black wire is still connected to the neck board. It goes into the connector that attaches to the pins on the tube neck.

Do I have to desolder this piece from the neck board or is there a way to disconnect just the black wire? It almost looks like that one piece is hinged or something.

Also, do you think these traces look bad/broken?

Thanks

That plastic cover on the neckboard tube socket is hinged and swings up to reveal the solder terminal for that focus voltage wire.

That circuit board miight only have scratches in the foil. However there's a possibility those could be breaks. Get out the ohm meter and check continuity from point-to-point to see if there's an acual break in the foil.

i might go ahead and replace the HOT and the voltage regulator, but only because i was RIGHT THERE with the hood open, so to speak.

Okay the installation of the new flyback went well. The monitor turned on and the picture looks great...except I still have the slight wavy/shaky image going on.

I pressed on all the pots to see if that made it worse, like someone suggested, but there was no change in the screen.

Does anyone have any other ideas as to what might be causing this?

The manual says it should be 123v at IC4 pin 4 and P202 pin 3 on the neck board.

I checked the pin on the neck board at P202 and that read 116v. I couldn't get to the pin at IC4 safely to check the voltage there at the moment.
