My games don't get a ton of play... usually around holiday's when company is over, that's about it... most of the kids are grown up and usually just talk about Dad the geek with his nerdy arcade hobby.

However the other night my wife had some company one of her friends brought her little boy... he was ridiculously cute... going from game to game grabbing anyone in the house he could to get to play...

I found this pic on the camera... don't know who took but I think its great... here he is on DK2 and my daughter keeping him company playing StarWars...

Thats cool he liked the arcade games . Usually younger kids get bored because they're so hard compare to newer video games.

He was just crazy over it all... some games he was actually able to play and others he just enjoyed the video and sounds.

It was really really cute. We enjoyed a go at TMNT and World Class bowling together.

DK2 was a bit beyond his capability... (and mine for that matter) ;)

TMNT is a great game to start kids off on. It's easy. 2 buttons and just mash away.

Same deal for me. Aside from me playing them, my games don't get much play time other than on holidays or if we have guests with kids. Even so, younger kids get turned off by the difficulty of my games. I want to pick up an X-Men or TMNT eventually not only for myself, but so other kids could enjoy. It would be nice to pass on that piece of my youth.

Wait...does this mean I'm going to be the geeky dad too when my daughter gets older?

Say it ain't so, Eseyo?!? That Vs Goonies demands that the public comes over and plays it!

Unfortunately, Yes!

For girls... its about 10-12 years of age when you Dad, become un-cool. Boys... last a little longer.

My girls are 17 and 18 now and have come back around... (happened once the drama of high school coolness lost its sizzle).

Right on! Though if people call you a geek for collecting arcade games, they are really just jealous on the inside. :)

I think I may be the only person in the world who honestly likes playing Vs. The Goonies. I've been a huge fan of the movie since I was like 5 and I have a lot of memories playing the game. I can admit the gameplay and replay value are both very low on the scale, but I like it and that's all that matters to me.

Not looking forward to this.

What a great age for kids. They know at that age that those machines have a physical presence that the consoles don't.

Dude, it's his daughter. Wow.

Apparently no one reads.

BTW - how much older is your daughter than your son? I wonder if they were closer in age, if they would play these games more?

I look forward to the days of my boys being old enough to play these games. It wont be for a while though.

He is not my son... he is one of our friends children. My kids are all older (17,18,22) and are either getting ready to go into college or are out.

Its fun when a guest comes over (no matter what age) and gets everyone to hang out and play.

Yes you should ... man I could tell stories that would make you cringe! Fortunately for us, our kids are really good communicators (sometimes too damned good). Remember what it was like being a teenage boy? Its a real treat tackling the problem from the other side.

This is one of the main reasons I was worried about having a daughter. Thank you gentleman for confirming that my worries were valid.

Before we knew we were having a son I told my wife that if it was a girl, I was going to do the best I could to pack the pounds on her. I am simply not up to the task of dealing with teenage boys looking at my daughter with their lust filled eyes... and the same goes for their PARENTS! BASTARDS!

:D

My first born is my only daughter. You just gotta teach her to be tough as nails and not put up with anyone's shit. She is definitely a tomboy and the tallest one in her class. Nobody messes with her. Of course she is only in 2nd grade.....I got a long ways to go.
