I picked up my first cabinet this weekend, a working Jungle King in great shape. I wasn't too keen on the game at first, but I like the way that cabinet looked (great art, very colorful) so I went to check it out expecting to negotiate the price down. The cab was in such great shape that I gave the seller his asking price of $500.

The seller told me he hadn't made any modifications while he owned it, but there were some obvious updates to the cabinet. The original power supply has been replaced by a HAPP model and the monitor does not appear to be original, it has some burn from a game called Combat. The burn is not visible when the monitor is on and in fact the monitor is very crisp and bold. Also seems that there is a replacement HAPP bezel under the glass, but I'm not sure what was there originally. The t-molding has been replaced with a smooth type, but some of the original textured stuff goes across the top of the marquee. The control panel appears to be all original but after taking it off and inspecting underneath, it looks like it had some work done, not sure to what extent though. Coin door is original but the art is missing from the front - there is a piece of laminate over the front which may be covering it up, but it is probably unsalvageable because of the glue applied under the laminate. The art on the marquee and bezel glass has some cracking, but overall looks awesome.

The only major gripe I have about it right now has to do with the colors in the game itself. Every version of this game I have seen has a green background on the title screen and coin insert notification screen. On mine, the background is black. I suspect it may be a problem with a chip on the PCB. The monitor also has a purplish spot (you know, magnet distortion) that I can't seem to get rid of. It's only visible on the title screen so I'm not too worried about it.

Overall the cabinet is solid and very clean and I'm happy with my entry into this hobby.

VERY nice! I would have given $500 for that machine, too.

(I'm quite shocked at the condition of that CPO.)

..

Nice.. the overlay looks amazing.

Your game has been painted black in the front btw. Its suppose to have green around the coin door.

I would try reseating the chips on your board.

Now that's the kind of deal that personally makes me smile. HE found a game he loves, didn't even balk on the price. Nice cabinet and good on you for paying full price.

True enough, and I'd prefer a cab to be 100% accurate, but I have to say, that front panel kinda looks better painted all-black.

The front of those cabs always looked funny to me; as if it was really all green, and somebody painted over it -- leaving a funky little area of green around the coin door.

Nice grab dude. I'm totally jealous! The game looks spectacular! I passed up a JK mini a few years ago because I was broke and I'm still kicking myself for not scrounging up the money somehow. You did good, I would've paid $500 too without a blink.

They made a JK mini?

Well, I'll be damned. I didn't know that.

A friend of mine bought it at an auction in Iowa; the cabinet had the wood grain look like so many others. To tell you the truth I really don't know if it was dedicated or not. I'm not going to sit here and say it was, but it could've been. I'll have to do some research on that....

On my elevator action I was missing some colors too. My fix was cold solder joints on the filter board that was mounted just above the main PCB set. Monitor may need a cap kit also.

Forum member prOk sells a full set of stencils on his website with the two sides and the front. I would send him a PM and see if he would sell you just the font stencil. You could paint that missing green easy enough.

Here is a link to his site.

Here is a link to Phet's thread where he used prOk's stencils.

Very nice looking machine with or without the green on the front. Awesome find.

Welcome, my fellow Pennsylvanian. Nice pickup. One of the few times you'll get people on KLOV saying good price when the cost is $500. Definitely a nice looking game.

After looking at that flyer it reminded me that I need to kick myself all over again for not buying the darn thing...

I don't know...

That cabaret is painfully devoid of the cool artwork that the UR has. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's downright fugly.

The upright is definitely a lot nicer looking. But for space reasons I would've taken the mini. Plus I've never seen an upright since 1983....I'll keep looking though.

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone. I definitely want to restore the artwork on the front around the coin door, so I will be inquiring about the stencils. Only problem would be the color matching. Since the front actually has laminate glued onto it, maybe the original green paint is under there and I could slice a piece off.

I'll be looking at the boards for cold solder joints, too; thanks for the tip SuperBee.

pr0k likely has the paint codes you need too. ;)
