today the seller sends me this message.
"Hello Toby, I have to tell you something. I turned on the pinball to make sure everything was fine before you got here and it burned up. I don't know what happened but it was terrible and everything has melted and burned. So I don't think you will want it that way. Sorry but I'm glad it happened before you bought it, then after you bought it. I don't want to sell anything that's not good. Good luck in your search and I'm sorry You did'nt get your machine. Take Care, Pete."

i replied

"No way serious! Pics or it didn't happen! What's left? I want thebackglass if possible, sometimes they stink when u turn en on but they can get fixed.."

he called and left vmail, said he didnt know what i was talking about......

Classic case of:

1. Wanted auction to end at a higher amount and now I need a excuse not to sell it you.

2. Had someone else offer more money, and now I need a excuse not to sell it to you.

Most likely with ebay its number one. They gambled on a low opening bid, and didn't get what they wanted so now they are trying to get out of the sale. And the excuse they gave you, sounds good, but you know its BS.

He didn't know what you were talking about? Are you sure he sent the message and not someone who wanted it but lost the bidding?

Call him and tell him you're coming anyway to see what he's talking about.

Something happened similarly with Mattroid and myself. Mattroid bought a local game off of Ebay for $120 because he wanted the monitor. He didn't want the cab, so I made a deal to drive there and pay half ($60) and pull the monitor for him, then take the cab. Everything was supposedly working.

The day we go there, we find out they tested it the night before and the isolation transformer burned up. Matt was afraid the monitor blew with it (it did) and I ended up buying the entire thing for $100. Replaced the iso and spent quite a bit of time figuring out the montior problems (finally fixed it)....

WoW.

I would call bullshit..
Call him out on it,
If you were doing the deal in person then let him know you wanna pick over the remains and see it for your self before you will "let it go".

sorry but I have trust issues and when it smells like bullshit, it usually is bullshit.

ok cool guys i agree, just wanted to make sure i wasnt being paranoid.

im thinking leave neg feedback and let that be the end of it?

He has 100% feedback. I'm not quite sure he would want to take a chance over not getting what he wanted out of it. Threaten negative feedback or the pinball machine.

Amen brother!

Yeah,I'd just neg him.I know ebay says to try to make every effort to rectify the situation before leaving any negative or neutral comments, but it won't matter anyway, the guy's flaked on you and has completely wasted your time.I'd say that alone is cause for a negative.

last post for the night

I was thinking about this one a little more. me as a seller would want to make everything right as can be. so I would say gie him 24 hours for a chance to email you photos of said fried machine. then If he fails. or dosent provide proo then neg him... but give him that final chance. I know as a ebayer in general I'm proud of my 145 pos feedback with 0 neg would at least be given chance to prove beore it going to a straight neg..

If I were the seller and this ACTUALLY happend, I wouldnt have said anything in an email. I would have asked for your phone number, contacted you in person and explain what happened.
As the buyer I would expect him to show you pictures if you ask for them. Offer to buy the machine at a discounted price and see what they say. Chances are its getting sold to someone else who contacted the seller and offered more. Its also possible his story is true but not likely. I have seen some reliable machines die from moving them and shaking something loose.
If they dont cooperate with you I would cut my loses and just give a neg feedback. Be clear on your intentions of leaving the feedback and give them time to resolve the issue before proceeding. Other than that its not much you can do about it.

Seller is bullshitting. He didn't get the price he wanted. Assuming you haven't paid anything, let it go - he's obviously a sleezbag and you don't want to deal with him any further.
