So, I saw an ad on Craigslist for a local estate sale, that listed they had a Missile Command and a Congo Bongo. The sale was from 9am to 5pm and said "Everything Must Go." I am running low on space and so decided I would drop by as close to the end of their sale and see if I could get them cheap. If they weren't there anymore, I figured no real loss.
I showed up at 4:30 and they were still there. I checked them out: Missile Command turned on but was displaying garbage on the screen and Congo Bongo wouldn't turn on (they had lost the keys so i couldn't even open it there to makes sure everything was in there). At that point I had kind of decided not to get them thinking they would want a couple hundred for them each, but I asked the guy what he wanted for them anyways. He said he would take $50 for one or $75 for both. I didn't even bother haggling, I just handed him the $75 and loaded them up.
Today I unwrapped the Congo Bongo, cleaned it up and busted the lock. I noticed the interlock switch had dried up old duct tape all over it. I pulled it off and pulled the interlock switch out. The machine turned right on. Game played perfectly, only problem is the screen has some burn in of the first stage that is noticeable in the second and third stages.
Cosmetically the Congo Bongo has a little bit of wear and tear but is pretty solid. The biggest problems are some cracking on the CP on the bends and edges and the side are is starting to peal in a couple spots. The Missile Command is a solid cab. There is a bumper sticker stuck to one side that I will have to get off and the CP is extremely beat up like most Missile Commands. Oh, and of course the trackball needs a rebuild.
All in all, an awesome score IMO.
Snapped a couple pictures, as I know "pics or it didn't happen." Missile Command is still wrapped up though.
