My Donkey Kong

Installed some new Asahi Seiko model 740 coin mechs to replace the battle torn mechs that were on there. I did not take before pix but if you check out the YouTube video posted earlier you will see what the old crappy looking mechs were like. I could have just put new parts on the front but I figured I might as well stick on completely new mechs since I bought some for my Asahi Seiko parts for sale thread. Check out these bad boys...

Updated list of future repairs...

- New T-Molding.

- Put on Insert Coin sticker and get Coin Mech stickers.

- Replace hacked service switch with unhacked replacement.

- Get serial plate for DK (TKG4).

Everytime I work a little more on my DK I think of something more that can be done to it to make it better and I fear by the time I am done with it the only character it will have left is the horizontal mounting hardware, light gun holster mounting holes, and less than perfect bezel & marquee. Oh well, at least it will look damn good.

Looking nice, DKs are fun to rebuild. I was playing mine tonight and having a great game. Got up to level 5 on one guy and started the barrels and once I got up the first ladder my joystick lost the ability to go left. :( All I could do was stand there and jump barrels until I lost all my guys.

Also get you some of that true-flat molding. Yes it costs more but the few extra dollars is well worth it once you see how it looks. :)

My Brother-In-Law came over today and we worked on my games. We replaced the hacked service switch with a nice, unhacked one. We increased the playing volume (my CarnEvil on volume level 1 could drown out the DK...wasn't happy with that). We went to put on the T-Molding and turns out I am retarded. I HAD THE WRONG T-MOLDING!!! How I could miss this I do not know. I need offset T-Molding not the standard. I need money now to get this before the Chomping Quartes dude runs out. However, I am broke in arcade funds and I gotta get something nice for the wife for her birthday. Dammit.

Updated list of future repairs...

- New OFFSET True-Flat T-Molding.

- Put on Insert Coin sticker and get Coin Mech stickers.

- Get serial plate for DK (TKG4).

- Remove scratch and cig burns from CPO and install NEW Underlay Instruction Card

Also got some NEW original SMALL RETURN CUPS for this bad boy. The bugles were nice but the cups are awesome. Here are the pix of the things I have done lately...

And I got new properly printed under CPO instruction cards made. Haven't installed it yet. Will do when I restore the CPO.

How much were the new coin mechanisms? (I assume all the hardware and inside and outside parts were included).

Thanks.

New mechs come with everything but the return cups. Those are extra. New mechs come with U-shaped bugles (like the ones shown earlier in the thread) for the coin return catch. You can click the Asahi Seiko link in my sig for prices, pix, and options.

Ok. The only problem is that the thread doesn't have actual pics of each of the items offered.

Yeah it does. Scroll down. the first four posts show everything. The first post is the prices and parts list. The second through fourth are pictures of the actual items.

No new pix to add to the thread yet, but I did install a Double Donkey Kong PCB with High Score Save Kit today. I did it to test out this board I got in a trade but I left it in there for the time being. I like the freeplay and having two games in there without the huge energy drain I get from changing anything on a machine. I don't mind the off sounds on DK when it means I have two games in there to play. I have also been dying to get a HSS kit so this work for now until I fork over the $$$ to get the D2K with HSS kit for my original Donkey Kong PCB. I also just ordered the proper True-Flat Offset Nintendo T-Molding. I will update the pix of my machine when I get that installed.

- Install New OFFSET True-Flat T-Molding when it arrives.

PC to DK

Couldn't read this post and not state that the playchoice collection that you had in that machine was amazing! The 10 pcbs that were listed are all incredibly difficult to track down. Wish I had my pc when you were selling off your collection. I would have been all over that sale!

I appreciate the props. I love the PlayChoice 10 and when I get to feeling better I will collect the set again. No doubt about it. I got quite a bit out of selling my PlayChoice collection (about $4500 for the carts and $450 for the single monitor kit). Had life issues to get straightened out but I am on the right track now. This DK is my current project. It goes along side my Nintendo Classics collection (this cab). I have almost everything for any game from the "Family of Five" to be played in here at any given time. All I need is a conversion style Mario Bros. populated control panel in nice condition and a DOKERT cp wiring harness to be utilized with the Nintendo Super Harness he makes.

I think I still have a Mario Bros. control panel for a Donkey Kong cabinet, but I remember the overlay wasn't too good.

Where did you get the Nintendo T-Molding?

I'd be interested in the cp if the price was right considering I'd need to replace the cpo. PM me if you want to let it go. Also, it needs to be fully populated and preferably with the proper color buttons.

As for the T-Molding...

http://www.chompingquarters.com/store.php/categories/t-molding

It is the only site where you will find T-Molding of this quality. Quality is worth the price. He is running low on stock and won't be making another run for quite some time so I suggest you get what you need if you have the funds.

Well, it's already out of stock.

I assume that 20 feet worth of T-Molding includes what you have to put on the front of the DK control panel also.

(I'll get down to the basement tonight and dig out all my control panels to see what I have).

Usually there would be enough left over for the cp without having to buy extra. Regular white t-molding is still available...it's just not as nice. The hardest to find will be the offset true flat for those (me) with a particle board cab. I used regular white t-molding on my old Ninty cab and it looked fine. It wasn't until I saw the true flat that I noticed the difference. People in the real world wouldn't notice, but this site isn't necessarily part of the "real" world.

I put on my Coin Mech decals I got from This Old Game. Here is a picture of the new decals applied.

DKCOINMECHDECALS.jpg

It's not a whole lot of progress, but it's something. I have a serial plate and T-Molding that need installed, but I have to wait for my Brother-In-Law to have time to help me with those. After I get that stuff done then all I really need to do is the finishing touches to restore the CPO (remove cig burns, scratch, and put new CPO Underlay on. I am also trying to get my hands on an excellent condition marquee as this one has scratches on the paint and it bugs me that the light shines through. My bezel has missing paint in the top left corner but the rest of it is so great (especially the viewing area) that I don't mind the small imperfection. Plus my bezel lacks the copyright logos so that's somewhat unique. I will do a bunch of pictures of the finished project.

Ok. It's difficult to know what the correct button colors are for Nintendo control panels because there have been so many button changes on them :D

But the control panel I have is not in great condition. It definitely needs a new overlay and I'm sure some button maintenance. I have several Vs. control panels I have to get around to cannibalizing from. (At least the Donkey Kong control format is simple).

I did send an e-mail to Twisted Quarter last week via Ebay. When I didn't get a reply I sent another a couple days ago. This is the response I got...

No body got back to you because we never dseem to have gotten an e-mail / question from you before now ... to do a nintendo cabinet with the front panel you will need 25 feet and we do combine shipping ....andrew

Something about this made me want to look elsewhere and I decide to just chance T-Molding.com again. So we'll see what happens. But after that reply I did take an hour out to dig out my Donkey Kong cabinet and measured it. The amount needed for the sides along with the front of the control panel actually came out to less than 19 feet.

P.S.: Does anyone have the exact dimensions of an original Donkey Kong marquee? (I'm going to have to get one made).
