I recently restored a Discs of Tron and just filmed a little video review of it. This game is sick! :)

Check it out below!

great job with the dot restore. it took me a year to get mine and i probably overpaid but its an upright and it has the speech mod which is pretty cool and i was surprised it also has freeplay. i keep my tron and dot together with the tron pinball. really nice looking games with the lights off in the 'cade. nice to see these games being restored like new and hope they will be around for a long time. nice review btw, takes a while to get to the up and down disc shot levels.

Do you know if it's running this old free play rom that he pulled?:

Or, is there another one out there?

Really want to do the speech mod. Not really that excited about the work involved. Looks like it really hacks up the game. I wish there was an elegant solution to do it. Is there a lot of speech?

There is also a patch for the ROMS at http://www.ionpool.net/arcade/mcr/dot/index.htm

There are a couple threads on here about getting a S&T working in a UDOT. Luckily I didn't have to since it was already done before I got the game. But the directions are thorough and clear. You won't need to hack any wiring if you use it with a switcher. Thanks to some help from don1400, I'm working on getting the setup to work with the -5V EDOT board (eliminating the switcher and hopefully the hum), I just need to order the connector parts. If my plans are correct, you'll only need to either wiretap 2 wires or connect 2 sets of 2 wires to single pin on the MCR power board, so not really much work. You can make the install look quite clean.

Nice review, John! DOT to me is one of the best games of that era, period! It's just a super fun game that doesn't get old to me. I recently restored my EDOT so the upright that I had for 2 years is going to a very good home (Mike96) so he can restore that beauty. I love the game so much that it was tough even letting go of the upright, even with having an EDOT. :)

Looks like that patch is not good for an upright with no squawk & talk:

"2. Upright cabinets have full speech with Squawk & Talk board in 1 or 2 player modes (you probably don't want this if you have an upright cab with no squawk & talk installed. It will cause some short delays when speech should play. If you are clever you could probably figure out how to remove this part of my patch and use the other parts!)."

Your not missing anything with the speach. Sark doesn't even sound like Sark. There's some laughing but nothing special. I have a dot and can do without the talking. Seems annoying after awhile.

i know little of the freeplay. i have had no issues and dont know how it was done. to be honest with you the speech is cool, but if the game did not have it in the first place it would probably be no big deal to me. just alot of laughing and some digs

Having mine without it and then adding it, I noticed a difference. It's a little work, but worth it if you can find a board.
