My Daughter needs ideas for her 80's Movie Night

The Princess Bride
That was actually made in '90... close though.

Just wanted to see if anyone would wiki that or automatically know I'm full of crap... I'm bored... Good movie though, nice call.

I remember seeing the trailer on TV when it first came out, and thinking that it looked like it would be a hilarious movie (I was right), so I know it was late '80s without looking it up.

BTW, I can't believe that no one has mentioned the epitome of cheesy '80s action movies: Commando (1985).

Also, ninja movies were really big in the '80s, and Revenge of the Ninja (1983) was probably the best of the genre.

Cobra (1986) and Rocky III & IV (1982 & 1985) are highly representative of the '80s as well; with the latter even having a cold war theme. Speaking of the cold war, Red Dawn (1984) is another good one.

If I were going to watch only 3 movies from the '80s, I would watch an action movie, a comedy, and a horror. The action and horror movies would be Commando (1985) and Friday the 13th (1980). My favorite comedy of the '80s was Three Fugitives (1989); but for near non-stop laughter; and if a standup comedy routine was acceptable (as opposed to a normal movie), I'd go with Eddie Murphy Delirious (1983) (best standup routine ever IMO).

well im going to add my two cents. I liked the movie Loverboy Dempsey was funny as hell in that movie, also does anyone remember the name of that Michael Keaton movie where he has that video wall thingys. I believe it was keaton...

+1 For Loverboy, an awesome film thats funny enough for guys, but sensitive enough to be a chic flik. As for Keaton, I couldn't find anything that rang a bell on IMDB, but he did have these great 80s flicks. Mr. Mom, Beetle Juice, The Dream Team, Batman, and maybe Gung Ho, Johnny Dangerously, and Night Shift.

didn't see anyone post:
say anything
princess bride
purple rain
pink floyd the wall

I would go horror:
hellraiser
lost boys
alien
american warewolf in london
children of the corn
evil dead 2
near dark
nightmare on elm st
friday the 13th
re-animator
the shining
rosemary's baby

loverboy would be a good choice. another dempsy movie to consider is some girls.

Your right... I just watched them in the 80's when my parents weren't looking.

The 70's did offer a few good things...

I really enjoyed
escape from witch mountain
The cat from outer space...
Jaws
Omega man ( recently redone under I am Legend)
superman
Cat people
Humanoids from the deep.

Some of these were B movies, but fun to watch when you your about 10.

What?

No lov'in for the Teen Wolf? (not the sequel though, it sucked)

Turning all Werewolf-ie, surfing on top of a van with the Beach Boys blaring? Can't get more 80's than that....

I can't believe it's only been mentioned twice so far. How about the best movie ever, Fast Times at Ridgemont High. This movie and arcades went together with early 80's arcade era kids.

Guys guys... for the group he's talkin' about... The Dead Pool ain't happnin'.
Let it go

Besides, it's a crappy movie anyway.

Sooo, any closure on this thread? What happened? Has the party gone off yet or what?

The party is this Saturday night. She was able to find a Short Circuit VHS at a pawn shop and will be submitting this as well as my Spaceballs. Surely, one of those will make it to the top three. I will let everyone know what 3 movies they ended up watching. A lot of great movies mentioned and I appreciate everyone's input. Looks like I now have a new chore! Trying to find some of these great movies at the pawn shops!

Thanks to all!!!

Ted
