So....I bet you were wondering what I was going to do with that Taito Colony 7 cabinet I sold the game and guts out of.....No????

The idea of an arcade cabinet for my old Nintendo Entertainment System has been floating in my head for years, and I finally had a great solid cabinet to use. I had started this project twice before, with inferior cabinets, and it was not to be.

I had gotten the old Taito Colony 7, and after half fixing it, I ended up selling the game and guts out of it, leaving a great cabinet. I used the monitor in another project, and went to work on the cabinet to house my NES and my wifes Super NES. I gutted the cabinet, installed a 19 inch tube tv from a friend, built a drawer in the bottom, built doors for the front after removing coin door, and installed a wire shelf for the systems.

I hacked and installed 2 NES Advantage arcade joysticks, and routered them into the control panel. I put a Nintendo decal onto clear plexi, then mounted it onto a board, which i cut an oval out to match the nintendo logo, and put red plexiglass behind that for the marquee light to shine through. Finally, i sanded, bondoed, and painted the whole cabinet Nintendo grey, inatalled red T molding, and installed a bunch of Super Mario themed decals. It is mainly a NES system, but can play Super NES with controllers plugged in and wires coming out front doors.
This will definetely get played!!!! Its like a Nintendo 1000 in 1!!!!!!!
If you can see, i used the NES controllers as handles formthe drawer and front doors

That's chill. You going to make a Gameboy one now? :D

that would be cool!!! I have a few other systems, but the old NES was what I grew up playing, so its my fav...... I do have another idea for my old Sega Genesis, completly de case it, and an old tv, making them just look like circuit boards and wires, and really crudely mounting them onto a pole, or rebar or something, then kinda randomly spray paint the whole contraption, like grafitti, so it would work and play perfectly, but just look like a pile of parts..........maybe

I like it. Do you have a youtube video showing it a bit more?

How about SNES? Do you have to hook up the SNES gamepads to play it, or has the advantage been hotwired to work with SNES too?

Thanks guys! I never played Super NES too much when I was a little chap, but my wife had one so I put it in there. She only has the one Mario World game, and I hook the snes controllers out the front door to play it. I have it hooked inline with the NES, and leave it on, but when the NES is turned on, it takes over. The Super NES is basically almost used as an attract mode screen, before turning on the NES, or while switching games....

I honestly thought you guys were gonna murder me for disgracing the old Taito cabinet!!!!

There is no way I have a problem with a cab like that, I have a few empties that I am going to convert into something like that. although I think I will hack and kill 2 NES controllers to make it a full arcades style control panel.

If I get one done I will bring it to MGC next year. I think it would be a blast.

Word. I recommend the Yobo 3-in-1 or 2-in-1 system if you decide to hack. I made a pretty tricked out one with one of these systems. It runs SNES, NES, and Genesis all with the same joysticks and buttons. Not as true-to-NES-style as this custom job, but still fun none the less.

I must admit, I was a little worried there for a minute. Seeing those pics however.. It looks fantastic.. Now what can you do for a 2600??

gozer i was under the impression that the knock-off systems are basically SOC emulated units, thus they cannot play certain carts. EG StarFox on snes because of the added superfx chip, or with genesis, virtua racing with the 3d bullshit vchip, etc. i guess to some it's nitpicking, but should be concidered before making the dive. i might be completely wrong about it i dont know since i dont own one of these cool knock off systems, but maybe someone who has one can chime in
