Friday, my wife gets paid again.... so I'll be able to finish a lot of things up. God love her, she actually managed to get some overtime for this pay period(2 weeks), and has generously allowed me to compile a list of parts to acquire to get all 4 cabinets in the dining room up to fully functional.
Backtracking a bit, CamaroMurph saw my need for an Asteroids harness, and offered me a very generous deal for one. Would like to drop a public "Thank you!!" for that. This, coupled with the other very generous deal I got for the Asteroids CP last year, is going to allow my Lunar Lander to switch between Lunar Lander and Asteroids.
The PCB I bought from CoinOpWarehouse early last year, and got a good deal on it, too.
So... yesterday, the harness arrived. Unfortunately, my supply of pain meds is gone, so what should have taken me maybe 30 minutes, got stretched into a 6 hour project.
My plan was never to "convert" LL to Ast. At least, not fully. I laid the harness out, started with the most obvious connection(PCB, for those keeping score), and zip-tied the Asteroids harness to the Lunar Lander one. Labeling the wires at each connector. I installed the CP, and hooked everything else up for Asteroids. Well, almost everything.... it seems that the "slot" coin door common in Asteroids has a different connector than the "owl eye" coin door common on Lunar Lander. Not a big deal, though.... Asteroids can be set to Free Play via dip switches(which I've done).
Guess what I had forgotten?
I'd "borrowed" the Big Blue from it for Pole Position. Well, I've still got one untested one on the spare Pole Position brick.... but it's literally rusted in place. I found this out "the hard way", and now the screw heads are stripped. Been considering that.... have an idea, but it may not work. Then again, the Big Blue may not work either.... impossible to say.
Okay, so I figured that since I would LOVE to get a picture of the three uprights working, I'll just swipe the one out of Dig Dug.....
Yeah.... no.
Opened the access door, and fuck me it's cramped in there. I didn't want to risk damaging the monitor... so I put Dig Dug back together. Now I know why cocktails are not exactly popular. They're a bitch to work on.
Right. Well.... I guess the picture will have to wait until next week. But, in order to get Asteroids working, I'm going to have to swipe a Big Blue from somewhere.... I may try the spare brick again, but it's unknown functionality comes into play. I think I'll end up swiping one out of Pole Position, for testing purposes. Oh, who am I kidding...... it'll end up in my hybrid cabinet, and I'll order a replacement for the one I swiped, plus an extra... because Dig Dug's is still original. May as well get it now....
The "connection" issue with Super Pac-Man has returned.... but I'm pretty sure I know WHERE the issue is: The PCB connector. The problem goes away if I pull the cabinet out and push on the connector. Then it returns a little later(after people have been walking through the area). Going to re-pin that one, and see what happens.
I'm going to hit Baynesville this weekend, and pick up some parts(mostly fuses) to have on hand. Also going to hit Home Depot for wood hardener, and probably Michael's for some poster board. Mostly for Pole Position.
I'm considering, since we have a little spare cash this time, in grabbing cap kits for Dig Dug and Super Pac-Man. Only drawback is that I don't know for sure what monitors are in them. That lack of info aside, what do you guys think?
I re-up my meds on Friday, so I should be able to wrap most of these projects up over the weekend. Get Pole Position's cabinet solidified back up(wood hardener, then secure the loose pieces back in place), glue down the t-molding, and maybe see about finding leg levelers for it.
Order parts/tools that I can't get locally(cap kits, Big Blues, etc)... on Friday(Thursday, with Bob Roberts).
Oh, unrelated notation: The extra bits you cut off of a zip-tie make great cat toys.
Oh, and yes..... I will post pictures of what I've done to Lunar Lander. Once it's completed.
