Ok so I took some advice that I thought was a good idea and it worked out nicely.

I set my oven in my kitchen for 500 put the control panel in for 3-5 minutes. When I took it and started peeling the cpo with a scraper it came off flawlessly.

Then I went to goo gone and goof off to remove the adhesive left behind.
I found that the citrus stuff(goof off I think, I may be wrong) worked the best.

that's all

Cool, thanks for sharing. Good to know when something works. Just for reference, do you know what CPO you were removing?

I wouldn't want to put that in something where my food goes - how about fumes in the house when that was going, and have you used the oven since?

I think the best solution is a grill - just run it for a while outside to clean it out, and I would also not use the same thing you put the food on, just in case...

hmmm, I cooked some hot dogs at the same time...They did taste a bit strange...

you don't leave the cp in the oven long enough for it to melt or even burn the cpo. I've never noticed any fumes and the idea is not to burn the cpo. You are just heating the adhesive very quickly to make it easy to remove.

not me. I put it on the grill for an hour and burned the shit out of it (I had peeled off the majority of the CPO before I put it in there though). The remaining CPO and adhesive flaked off without any effort when it was done!

You guys need to work smarter, not harder.

I pay $20 for the machine shop down the street to sandblast/primer my CPs. Effing sweet.

Joseph you need to work smarter not harder.I have done 5 control panels over the years and when I peel off my overlay it leaves a very sticky film on the cp I just stick my new overlay right onto it.I have some that I did years ago that still look excellent. Now if there gummed up,dried out,or theres rust underneath or the stickum stuff is peeling then yah I strip it all the way.But if its a uniform good looking very sticky film, on it goes and it allways looks great.

Hmmm, lets see. I drop off a CP, pick it up in the morning and its completley prepped. Pretty smart if you ask me, specially when I dont have to lift a finger ;)

BTW - I would say you are pretty lucky for throwing new CPOs over old CPO residues. People completely strip these panels for a reason. I wouldn't recommend that method.

Wow. Seems kinda strange to me.

Your right Joseph that is a alittle easier. Phet your right also it is alittle strange and I dont recommend it but it works comes out flat and perfect and looks great :D

You havnt? I have, like I said about 5 times. I dont do it every time. Most of the time I strip them and paint them like the rest of you but theres been about 5 times when there was a cosistent sticky film and man does it stick. You have to make sure your perfectly lined up because once the two sticky surfaces touch.YOUR DONE. Its like contact cement on a laminant countertop :D

did it make the oven stink? I have a couple control panels in need of this. how long did the process take from start to end

The house had a little smell for a few minutes. But like Dan said, you aren't cooking that bastard, just heating it up.

After I pulled it from the oven, it took roughly 2-5 minutes to peel the cpo completely off. All the old ones have missing/broken/cracked spots that slow you down. Anyway, very quick in my opinion compared to the past ways I have done this.

Goo gone'd it a couple of times and scraped it with a scraper. 10 minutes.
I will sand it tonite to get it perfect and probably spray paint it as well.
