my collection pix (pic heavy)

Yey working games!! It feels good doesn't it? You really cleaned up in there Tom, it looks so much better than before. I thought that Afterburner would be the death of you. What an obstinate beast. Glad to see it's up and running again and it looks so much nicer now after you put all that work into it along with all the replacement parts. Beyond everything, I'm really glad not to see a hand truck and pallet attached to that thing anymore. :)

Good job on the backlighting on the Rampart trackballs. That game looks awesome with backlit translucent colored trackballs. I miss mine already and it still hasn't been picked up. Oh by the way, you forgot to mention the rare Rev. 1 pinkish marquee on that thing. :)

I'm also happy to see that your Frontline finally arrived as well. I hope that it was worth the wait and that you're enjoying it. And it's good to see that the Missile Command and Warlords are still hanging tough and looking good.

Oh and yeah, I know your affinity for those white trashcan-looking things you call your "workhorses", but man, do you really need 3? Can't you scale down to just one (and hide it in the corner)? :)

Great collection Tom. I've been waiting to see some pics of your games for a while. It's an awesome assortment and everything looks to be in great shape. I really like your taste in games; so many of my favorites. Get a 720 and call your collection 'complete'!

Nice job!

WTF??? No Crazy Climber???? What kinda collection is this...

Jon

Not to worry; I could bring my CC mini over to Tom's to "moonlight" if necessary. (If I could move it outta my closet somehow; it's wedged in there pretty good.) :D

That's a great collection of working stuff, Tom! Awesome titles. I'll definitely have to come check it out sometime.

Freaking awesome collection. I was searching for an afterburner deluxe for a while and after the space started running out the weight and size became more and more of a determining factor. Kudos to you for having the balls to own such a game, as awesome as it is I can't imagine having to move one of those with broken casters.

I tried numerous times rebuilding using the available kits, but could never quite get the response I was looking for... Either The cursor moved slowly compared to the speed of the tracball itself or the cursor would wander...If I rolled to the right, the cursor might move up abit also.. It drove me nuts! I'm abit OCD when it comes to these types of things, I guess :(

Anyways after trying everything, including enlisting the assistance of my machinist buddies...lubed, unlubed, cleaned, as-is, air spun, worked in, I was about ready to throw in the towel, then took a chance on "ultra high precision miniature" bearings from McMaster-Carr. Upon receipt, they seemed pretty ordinary other than being individually sealed in plastic. But once installed, they performed great..beyond my best expectations. The downside is they are pricey at $16 each bearing x 6 = $100 per tracball and I've retrofitted 7 tracballs using these. Probably overkill, but I can finally enjoy playing the Tracball games.

Tom

what makes those bearings "ultra high precision"?

Very nice collection...

You should put together a Sketchup mock-up of your "gameroom"... it's sort of hard to determine the layout with the photos.

Tom's games are awesome. I have a blast at his parties. I hope I can make the next one!

Congrats, Tom, on your collection! Can't wait to see that Spy Hunter sitdown.

Assault: Underrated Namco classic with unique gameplay. NOS sticks, new monitor and Matt Osborne's Awesome Assault/+ HSS kit installed. Have Takeman's repro CP.. awaiting new repro CPO from Quarterarcade.

Rampart3P: HUO from atariHQ. Swapped in a burn free monitor from my previous Rampart. Translucent lit tracballs with ultra high precision bearings. Super fun game that not many people really know about. gameplay is best described as a combination of both missile command and tetris elements.

Missile Command: fully restored with new sideart (Phoenix?), new repro glass (ToG), new tracball and monitor. CP touched up nicely. Have one of Takeman's silkscreened repro panels on order, just in case. SuperMissile attack HS multi installed.

I may have to add Rampart to my want list.... cool collection!!

Totally awesome video games!

If only I could ever get all mine working! Oh and I'd like to *second* the motion for smooth trackball operation; I've gotten by, by flushing new bearings out with brake cleaner but I may try the precision versions at some point.

Lots of work tracking down and restoring those examples, simply amazing!
