My BLANK CANVAS

i bring to you my new "Blank Canvas"

wow, the last couple of weeks have been nuts! selling our old condo, moving into a house (to be closer to my wife's family), and finally getting the new garage ready for my new Atomicade.

luckily, the new buyer of our old condo is giving me 1-2 extra weeks to keep my games @ my old place in the garage. this is giving me the time to properly plan out and "dial" in my new garage set-up.

so far i have picked out a paint color for the garage and have rolled one coat of paint. big thanks to DAVE (vectorinvader) for helping me out along the way. thanks to you bro.

just looking for input/feedback from you guys....

what kind of style of gameroom do you like?? carpeting?? vinyl floor ?? wall art?? minimal?? stripes?? lighting?? mirrors?? etc...

more pics to come as i make some progress :) chris

Looks like a hell of alot of oil on the LHS , just be careful if you are going to get any coatings on it ,, absolutely nothing sticks to oil , so you need chemicals to purge it out , that can take a few days of applications .

Then a good grind to remove the top layer off for a key .

I do Epoxy floors ,

But a vinyl guy will tell you similar for his glue prep .

If you ever go these options , i can help with the product , and to find it`s equivelent in the USA .

That is if that is oil i can see , not dirt .

Good luck .

I would try to find a way to move the over flow pipe on the hot water heater and maybe get a pan under the water heater. If your going to your games near the hot water heater.

That's an emergency blow off, not an overflow. Unless something goes catastrophically wrong (like the burner doesn't shut off), nothing will ever come out of the pipe. So, don't worry bout it.

tanx for all the info kc.... i think if i can take care of all these things prior to the games coming in, i'll be able to sleep a lil better at night! chris

Oh and if you did want a water alarm anyway this is the one i have.

It has a dialer to alert you when something goes wrong. There is supposed to be a cell phone adapter too, but i haven't looked into it, since i'm still one of those people that have a lan line.

Congrats on the new digs, Chris!

If I can chime in (and I haven't read the whole thread, so if others have suggested this, I'm just +1'ing it), I'd really recommend epoxy for the floors. Carpet is cool and all, but since you are outside, have no idea what would ever happen with weather and water heaters (heaven forbid), epoxy is where its at. My parents have their garage floor epoxied at their place, and its sick. You can be out there with no shoes on, it wipes up easy, and it will be way easier to move games around. You could always epoxy the floor and then put stuff on top of it that is black light reflective, etc.

thanks jow for the info .... i also like the idea of epoxy on the floor. do you know if your parents had the epoxy professionally installed?? just curious how much i would need to do the entire garage in a darker color?? and how much it would cost too. is this something i can do on my own?

dave and i went and looked @ industrial carpet at lowes/home depot and all of their carpet was 12 foot or 15 foot rolls :( i really wanted to get one piece cut for the whole garage, but looks like i'd have to put two pieces together (which isnt my first choice, but could work).

heh jow.... how is the new place workin out for you?? chris

ok, so i got the second coat of paint on yesterday on "most" of the garage. i ended up going with a loud 80's red. again, big thanks to davey (vector) for his help with the first coat of paint.

just trying to figure out what carpet/flooring color would go best with the red walls. maybe brown, dark grey or blue??

i never realized how tough it is to paint a room red. lots and lots of coats of paint@!

now all i gotta do is find me a SATANS HOLLOW :) chris

Those UV chips are pretty cool, but wouldn't it tough to tell when your floor is dirty...? :D

I like the red.... I think just Satan's Hollow right in the center of the garage, that's it.... oh, maybe some fog machines and a few red spot lights.

ohhh..... i like yer idea with the whole red spot lights thing. gonna add that to my list!

the fog machine motif sounds cool, but could that possibly F up the games in anyway??

if i cant have fog, atleast i can have a cool strobe light.

note to self.... find satans hollow for center of the room. my guess is kalan will find another one of these in the next few weeks :)

Please avoid the mistake I did. Skip the whole hoarding stage and do QUALITY before QUANTITY in your new garage. I have a garage arcade like this too, I thought "I need more games! More more more! People will love it!" WRONG! People only played the 2 or 3 they liked, the other 12 or so just sat there unplayed, every single party.

If i could start over- Get games to fit on one wall, big TV on another wall, mini bar, a pin or two in the corner. Plenty of area to have bar top tables and stools for people to sit and just hang out!!! Thats the important bit I messed up on. Games took over hang out space and soon enough, everyones hanging out in the house, in the kitchen. No no no! I want people out in the garage! So, yep, im practically giving away games to fix this now.

In doing maintenance on apartments for 25 plus years. I had 4 fail on me nothing explosive but there was one that did gush. All failed due to the high mineral content in the water which can be found in the orange county area depending on where the city gets it water. Since he is living in the orange county area. It's a simple piece of mind thing. If you have low mineral content water, this wouldn't be an issue and I wouldn't have brought it up but since his new place is in the orange county area. It was something I thought should be mention.

As for the red paint. It reminds me of NEO GEO reds Laughs I caught myself Looking for the white letters stenciled on the wall. Great job keep up the good work..

ok, finally got some more work done in the garage!

picked up a couple 12 foot rolls of the industrial strength dark grey carpet over @ home depot. bought a couple extra feet to cover the "wrapped" area towards the bottom of the red walls.

big thanks to davey (vectorinvader) for all his continued help. he's got mad skills with framing and such. helped me big time to get the middle seam done (total pain in the ass). also wrapped the carpet on the step area to give it that "clean" look. we used that double sided gorilla carpeting tape which really helped out alot. there are a couple of small flaws, but overall very happy with how it turned out. oh, my youngest loves runnin around in there too.

next up is hanging the artwork/lighting and then the games will follow. so far just been having alot of fun with this whole process :) chris
