i bring to you my new "Blank Canvas"

wow, the last couple of weeks have been nuts! selling our old condo, moving into a house (to be closer to my wife's family), and finally getting the new garage ready for my new Atomicade.

luckily, the new buyer of our old condo is giving me 1-2 extra weeks to keep my games @ my old place in the garage. this is giving me the time to properly plan out and "dial" in my new garage set-up.

so far i have picked out a paint color for the garage and have rolled one coat of paint. big thanks to DAVE (vectorinvader) for helping me out along the way. thanks to you bro.

just looking for input/feedback from you guys....

what kind of style of gameroom do you like?? carpeting?? vinyl floor ?? wall art?? minimal?? stripes?? lighting?? mirrors?? etc...

more pics to come as i make some progress :) chris

I like the idea of making the place look as much like an actual arcade as possible. I'd probably go with carpet but if you don't do that then my second option would be sealing the floor. Possibly painting a design then sealing the floor. I would stay away from vinyl as I know from experience that moving games on vinyl will probably lead to tears over time and just look ugly in the long run.

As for the walls It's up to you how creative you want to get but keep the time frame you have to get this done in mind. I like the striping idea like nutballchamp has in his game room and I would guess it's probably doable in a relatively short period of time like a week if you put in work and stay on top of it. I did a pixilated design on the walls upstairs in my bar/game room that took two people days just to tape off even before I got to do any painting. So don't get too over the top or it might not get done in time.

Looks like you might need to run some power maybe have another breaker added to your box. It's probably right outside the garage. Just save yourfself the headache of running cords ect..

yeah..... i totally agree with you on the vinyl thing. im leaning towards some industrial strength carpeting from lowes or home depot. something on the cheaper side would be good :)

i also like nutballchamps setup. love the browns, reds, oranges of the 80s too. i love those colors, just scared to "try" to do the stripe thing.

toby..... thanks for the info on the breakers. actually the breakers are right outside the garage, super close (which is nice). chris

I would try to find a way to move the over flow pipe on the hot water heater and maybe get a pan under the water heater. If your going to your games near the hot water heater.

Looks like you need power, I wonder if the circuit breakers are close? Adding a few new breakers and a few new power feeds might be helpful.

Putting in a few Light switches will help you in turning on and Off your games from one spot.

Good Luck

thanks bro :) yeah, having so much fun with this. really wanna dial it in and make it into a great arcade space (the best i can do for a garagecade).

i'll take some pics tonight of the paint job too, post some more pics tomorrow mornin. chris

Congrats on your new home! It's always great to have more space for more toys:) can't wait to see the final layout.

Looks like an electrical job first. Assuming you have some empty slots in the box and it's not close to capacity, should be easy.. breakers, wire, outlets and a sheetrock saw

Awesome! I didn't have half the games I have now when I moved into my current place, so I couldn't think about flooring or painting now without moving a bunch of cabs somewhere. I would lean towards carpet as well for comfort, although some of the epoxy resin coatings look pretty cool, too.

I like stripes in the style of Nutball's or Phet's rooms. Ultimate would be a Dave K. setup, but that doesn't work well unless you have a cathedral-cade, and access to a muralist.

MacPDaddy snagged some pretty cheap carpet from a Habitat For Humanity Restore. There's one in Garden Grove - might be worth a look especially if some movie theatre switched out their rug. Industrial carpet is cheap, but the print stuff looks cooler.

why not put the games IN the house instead of OUT of the house?

Just my 2 cents - from a guy who has Atari Football in the foyer. :D

yeah I would start with knocking down that wall on the left in the first picture to free up some more space. :)

yeah.... the whole water heater thing def has me scared a bit. i had a plummer out yesterday to fix one of the toilets and he took a look @ the OVERFLOW pipe. he said he could extend it out to the front of the garage with a 90 degree angled piping. i might hold off on putting any games too close to the water heater.

also, dave has been helping me with installing 2' caster wheels on the bottom of my arcades. having the games off the ground a little bit will def make me feel better (incase of a water leak and all).

If the water gives you a scare, grab a water alarm and set it up so at least if your home you will hear it. Make sure you post pics as you progress so we can see the tranformation. I wish I had a nice blank space to start from, hell I wish I had some space.

i didnt even know they made a water alarm. good to know, thanks.

Adding an elbow and should be easy. I lend you my propane torch if you need it. It shouldn't cost you more than 10 bucks. If you live under a Home owner association, You might need the ok for them if your drilling a hole in front of your place.

Is that a grate/ drain I see on your garage floor? Do you know the slope of your floor? I like the idea of the water alarm. If you put the alarm in the pan. You should get an alarm before anything gets wet.

I wonder what kind of water you have there? Garden grove is tough on pipes and fixtures. I have replaces water heaters there every 5 to 7 years.

If you need extra hands or help, Just ask.
