Sorry about the video quality!
Here's a quick video of my mamecab, sorry for the french text, I made the video mostly for my friends who were curious about it and wanted to know how it was made and where I got the parts!
I made it quite modular, this way I can easily change or switch failing parts.. The PC is a budget small form factor acer revo machine i got for 200$ at futureshop, it runs everything fine until the Mortal Kombat 3 era games, which is fine by me. I went for a 6 buttons setup, the start menu actually feeds a credit every time. My goal was to eliminate clutter as much as possible. I hate those mamecabs with 5 different joysticks and 20 buttons.
I'm using the typical ipac+pacdrive setup from ultimarc to interface the computer and the joysticks + led setup.
I'm having some strange issues with the leds -- they flash fine during the menus and etc, but I can't get to work the 'announce buttons and only highlight the buttons used for each game' mode.. Documentation is really sparse about this. Anyhow!
I await your comments! This cab will fit well next to my other legit cabs.. I mostly built it as a learning experience and to have a cab for when I have kids over.
Important note: I used a 19 inches widescreen monitor - which is rather non-kosher for classic arcade titles - but mame now supports (well it has for a while) high resolution vectorized artwork .. this way, with a configuration setting, I fill the each 'side' of the screen that is not used for gameplay with bezel art, which shows all sorts of neat instruction cards and whats not. It's a good compromise and looks really good in real life.
