My kids go to a private school, and they were having a fund raiser silent auction, dinner thing, for some school improvements.

Both my wife and I are active and involved at the school, so I converted a nice cocktail game to a 60 in 1, game was in 9.9 condition, really nice all the way around and donated it to the school for the auction.

I was really worried because of the limited exposure the event had that it would pull what it was worth, so I made a deal with the principle to buy it back at 600 (basically what I had into it) if the bids weren't there.

We arrived a little late and it was at 450 so I placed my 600 bid and drank, talked and had dinner.

With about an hour left on the auctions the Principle ran across the room and said to me did you see what its at now?

I walked over and it was at 1600, with the final 10 minutes of bidding there was a crowd around the game with all the women dragging the husbands to look at it.

I'm happy that I did that I feel great that it pulled that kind of cash for the school.

Final winning bid 2600
Had to share.

Well in the spring the school will be running another fund raiser.

I have been asked by the Chair of the Gala fundraising committee if I could do something similar as last time since the cocktail was one of the highest margin auction items they had.

Unfortunately I now have my truck parked in the garage and all my project games are long gone.

Anyone have a good condition (could be gutted) midway cocktail game they want to donate to a good cause, I have enough parts on hand to build one and I'll provide proof it went to the school fundraiser.

The reason I say cocktail is I really think that those are more attractive in this type of auction fundraising setting.

its has to be a cocktail. They take up much less room, not as imposing and much much easier to move....cocktail easily fits in the suv, wagon and minivan....while an upright can fit, you gots to get rid of the carseats in the middle row....

for these people it was a huge novelty, outside of collectors, the regular folk never come into contact with 30 yr old plywood boxes....

Great Story! That's really awesome it went for so much, nice to see that kind of money being raised for the school! :)

Yea every time normal people come in my basement they drool all over
the pacman cocktail ignoring the dozen+ classics in super nice shape.

The cocktailis running an arcade sd.. :)

I am going to start making cocktail cabs with my CNC router sometime in the future. If your auction happens after I get rolling on these, I would be happy to make you a cab for free. If you've got all of the parts for one, you could basically make a brand new machine.

I am hesitant to post this because I don't want to promise something I can't deliver, or stop somebody else from donating a cab. If I start working on these before your deadline, it would be a great timing. When is the auction?

April of 2013 is the next Gala / fundraiser Obviously I would need a few weeks of spare time to finish it up.

Congrats! That's a great idea. I actually have some templates from a cocktail I made a while back so it would be easy to reproduce the top and control panel sides (it is based off the Pac Man cocktail). My kids' school has a similar fundraiser so it might be cool to make another one for that and be a hero like you. :)

OK, that should give me plenty of time. We'll keep in touch until it gets closer to the auction. If we are getting near February and I'm not on track I will let you know. Always happy to help a school. :)
