Titled Bits, Sticks, and Buttons: The Unofficial Guide to the 50 Greatest Arcade Games.

picture.php

As you guys may or may not remember, there have been several threads over the last year in which many KLOVers were calling for a new, fresh, arcade-themed coffee-table book. Alot of you kicked quite a few good ideas out, but none seemed to be showing up in the physical form. Some ideas just seemed to hard to sell on the large scale with publishers, others seemed like logistical nightmares. So I figured, what the heck, I'll give it a shot. This was my solution to provide both myself and everybody else something tangible in their game rooms to read and kick around for when company shows up. Although it's been written more for a newcomer to the hobby, there will be alot of cool stuff that everyone here will enjoy.

The link is right here at BLURB.com to order the book:

You can also click to preview 15 pages of the book.

The book incorporates lots of KLOV folks as well as some other notable gamers in the hobby who have all sent me various photos and quotes to help add their spin on what makes some of these icons so great. There are also a couple highlight pages which focus the reader's attention on the guys that keep the hobby going strong.

The book runs $32.95 for the 80 page, matte-finish, 8"x10", full-color version. Currently it is the only style available. Shipping should run $6 or $7 bucks. So, for just under 40 bucks, you can own a book that is no doubt going to go down in KLOV history as one of the most debatable pieces of work that any of us have produced. Here's your chance to see a bunch of your fellow enthusiasts and games in a real quick, easy reader.

I did the best I could to create something that everyone might be able to enjoy- even if all you enjoy is flaming me for picking the wrong games. :)
I am no literary master. I don't own a badass arcade or work in the industry. I design landscapes and keep 'em looking pretty- so try to refrain from being to brutal on the presentation. I really, really tried to produce something that everyone will enjoy having on their shelf, on the table, on the back of the toilet, or on the bed (Phet, you sicko).

Hopefully, I can simply be the first in a long line of self-published books from our group. I've proven that it is easy enough to slap together a nice-looking reader for no up front cost to the author. I forsee alot of you guys putting out some great restore books on various projects.

So, what are you waiting for? Order the book and let the flaming begin. lol
Which games made the list and which ones were just not good enough to reach the top 50? I'm hoping this thread can be stickied for a couple weeks so everybody can add their two cents into the listing or quality.

Well, that's it. Questions? Ask 'em here. Or PM. Or whatever. Let's keep it fun folks. Game on!

Oooooh, yeah. Signed, for sure!

... Let me know as soon as they are here or whenever I should pre-pay and I'll get it sent asap.

He posted a BLURB link where they are for sale right now. ;)

Awesome guys. :D

Another important note: for those folks who order one, they come directly from the printers. So, all the address information, paypal, or CC information gets taken care of at Blurb. Sadly, I won't have a way to autograph anything unless I meet you guys in person.

Thanks to all the folks here who sent me photos and info. You guys are awesome. I tried to touch-up any faulty or low-quality shots to the best of my ability. If you weren't contacted about being in the book, don't be bummed. You don't smell. I was either hunting down guys that I specifically remembered who loved a certain game, or reading through your VAPS information. Some of you guys professed your love for some of the games so much there, that I had to get you in for that page.

Totally gay that some phag with a totally inferior restore on Mario Bros. would be the featured Mario Bros. dude. ;)

Very nice!!! Just curious... Is it hard cover or soft cover?

Softie.

Personally I like hardcover books, but prefer softcover. I might go back through after baby #2 pops out and re-due it to offer it as a hardcover as well. The cost goes up like another 10 bucks or so with a hardcover.

For those who haven't ordered yet, I found a February promo code for the Blurb website. I double-checked with Gozer5454 to make sure this wasn't going to affect him since he put in the time and effort for this wonderful read. So for those who haven't ordered yet, you can put in a promo code of "NEWBLURB" and it saved like $6.56 of the total price when I checked out. I believe this is only a February promo code so if thats true you only have until tomorrow to get this discount. So order on boys!

Just as an FYI, I would have paid full price for this read as I think its worth it. I'm just a thrifty shopper, and when I see blanks for promo codes I always do a quick internet check. Habit I suppose.

Softcover is fine. Just wanted to know for sure.

Will be buying this week!!! Can't wait to see my interview about Exidy Venture... Oh yeah... I don't remember being contacted!!! Oh yeah, it's probably not in the top 50! haa haa.

I'm only 96.4% sure I'm ordering. :D

Can't wait to see how the Mortal Kombat II page looks. :D That game definitely has a special place in my heart from all the time I spent playing it growing up. It's cool to have the chance to represent such a classic fighting game. The only other game that's on about the same level for me is X-Men and I'm glad to see that also made the list too. I have to admit when I saw the X-Men page I started thinking about what kind of a photo I would have sent for that one too. :)
