I dug out some old pictures of what my arcade used to look like in 2001 when I first built it. From Feb. 1998 to Aug. of 2001 I had the games in my living room; 18 at one point!

In 2007 I had some bad flooding(no games were damaged thankfully) that ruined my floor. In 2008 I put down the new epoxy floor and repainted the walls, and came up with The Lost Highway theme.

Pic #1: One end of the basement pre-arcade; mid 1980's to be exact. We still burned wood for heat!

Pic #2: That same end today.

Pic #3: Another end of the arcade in 2001.

Pic #4: That same end today.

Link to the rest of the older pics on my photobucket page:

Dude, that backdrop just gives the whole room style. Straight up. Has your taste in games changed over the years as well?

Well Sean, I've really come to like the EM shooters over the last couple of years; and the older black and whites as well. I sold maybe a dozen games last year, and although I let some great titles go(Robotron, Tron, Tapper, Sinistar, Battlezone, Pole Position, Ms. Pac, Tempest, and others); I kept the games I really wanted in my gameroom.

In the end my theory is better to have lived, loved, and lost than never loved at all. I can say I owned and enjoyed all the games I sold off; and maybe someday I can come across a few of those titles again and make a spot in my arcade for them.

I hear ya. Love the EM stuff. I'd be afraid to own one for fear of it breaking down, but I'd love to play at anyone else's 'cade. ;)

Have you ever thought about extending the road to actually be part of your floor? Maybe paint some of the road on the floor and throw a thick clear coat to protect it? The road could go all the way to your stairs so as soon as you walk down the stairs you start to walk on the road? I think that would be cool.

The Alturacade

Wow, what a tremendous transformation that old dirty basement has made! I love the way the arcade currently looks, but also liked the way it use to look. Your first attempt had a very crisp classic look and the booth & checkered floor was killer! I want to see pictures of all the games in your living room, lol. Was the living room gameroom pre-wife & kids?

Heh, the games you let go basically compose most of my (g)arcade!

This.

Great pics. Thanks for posting them!

Yes, I have thought about doing that; it would be pretty radical. Not sure if I'll ever go that far, though. Its always in the back of my mind.....
