Picked up an A.P.B last night and it needs a monitor but I have no clue what should, or could go in it. Can you guys point me in the right direction? I want something reasonably priced but reliable.

You need a medium resolution monitor which puts you over the resonably priced category. They aren't real easy to find either. Keep your eyes peeled for a wells gardner 4915, 7615, 7635 or 7915

You'll need to find a used 19 inch medium res if you want reasonably reasonable. The new tri-res are pretty expensive, or so I've heard.

Oh geez no wonder the guy was selling it so cheap. I knew this would happen. I gotta think if it justifies buying a monitor versus just selling it. Thanks guys!!

Oh!! What do I need to look for in terms of a monitor chassis? Or should I get the tube first, then find a matching chassis?

The numbers mentioned by chris25810 are the most common chassis to loook for. Med res chassis usually just use a standard tube so that will not be a problem. If you are asking what type of frame fits the cab then I don't have an answer...

I am sure someone will know this for sure, but I think you can swap a cga tube into the apb. you will probably need to transfer the yoke, rings and chassis and also have to find the right tube (4900 series monitor?).

I know it can be done as I once had an apb with some empire city 1931 screen burn on it.. Picture looked good.

Maybe, but I doubt it. Standard (CGA) and Medium (EGA) resolution monitors are very similar. They are also usually part of the same "family". By family I mean WG made a few different K4900 monitor chassis. Most of them are standard resolution but the 4915 is medium resolution. There are other monitor families, or series, that are mostly std res with one med res.

My guess is the monitors he is selling are all standard res and will not work for this application.

Ahh okay so the key is to find medium res, gotcha. Are there more 19'' med res models than what chris mentioned , or is that pretty much it? Upon looking here in the F/S section I found a number of 19'' screens but the sellers don't state if they are med res and they are not by WG

I always wondered this too....My Apb has real bad burn-in from the high score table. I didn't really want to strip a Sprint or a Paperboy for a monitor....

The tubes are interchangeable within a family and often times they are interchangeable between families as well. If you really want to put a burn free tube in place of your current one I suggest finding a TV that is compatable.

as in a regular old television set?

Yes, but that was a reply to the other poster.

You need to find a complete medium resolution monitor. This includes the tube, chassis, and frame. The TV set will only provide you the tube which is the easiest part to find.

sohchx - you will have this problem a lot with your taste in games. Paperboy, 720, and Marble Madness also use med res.

I thought about buying an APB a few days ago. As soon as he said really dim monitor, I didn't want to mess with it.

I have a 19" med res monitor that works great but has some burn in. Got this in a trade with another KLOV'er. I'm not using it atm since I don't have anything that uses a 19" monitor. If you can't find a monitor in your neck of the woods let me know. We might be able to work out a trade or something.
