My 3 Tempest cabs.. Why is every one I find damaged!

In my long search to find a nice Tempest it seems almost impossible to find one without some type of damage.. most of them I've seen have damage in the part of the cabinet that extends out to hold the control panel- and I'm not talking about a simple crack, 2 of the 3 cabs I have the control panel area damaged pretty good. The other has some ugly swelling around the t-modling area on both sides. 2 of the 3 have pretty good damage at the bottom or corners of the cabs also. UGH!! And of course only 1 had the monitor present when I got it :)

So anyways, I plan on making one cabinet with the best of the parts from all three, so it isn't a total loss. I just find it very frustrating that out of all the games I have searched for, Tempest seems to be the one that ALWAYS has damage when found.

Oh, and I do have one that is fully operational, so that's an amazing feat in and of itself! :)

They look way better in photos, btw, as a matter of fact they look really nice.. they're not. But I will make sure the other cabs go to someone that is willing to restore it, or it will go in my storage unit for a while.

Well, Atari cabinets, while beautiful, are known for their ability to get broken. The particle board will swell when it's exposed to too much moisture, and then it'll be even easier to break. Now, they're still better than Q*bert, which sucks up all the moisture in a two mile radius.

Also, being a vector game, it probably spent a fair amount of it's life broken, being shoved around in an operator's warehouse.

Fix the imperfections on the wood and spend the $99 for new side art to get that perfect cab. You have to remember these things are antiques and where played by juvenile delinquents at 7-11, so finding one that is perfect is not an easy task.
