My 2nd restoration project begins: Star Trek SOS Cockpit
I am taking a short break from the GORF restoration that is nearing completion and starting on my new found Star Trek Deluxe Cockpit. My main objectives are:
1. Replace the base and add rolling casters
2. Replace rubber matting with carpeting (as inspired by a previous restoration thread)
3. Repair sound amplifier/sound board
4. Replace back door
5. Replace coin bucket door
6. Find someone to make me some side art and a new overlay for the chair's button panel
7. Rebuild Spinner
8. Replace t-molding
And if time allows:
9. Replace roof of the monitor cabinet
10. Replace old pushbuttons with lighted buttons w/20g microswitches
11. Repaint cabinet shells with Krylon fusion white.
So lets begin with step 1.
At one point, this game was sitting in a flooded basement, says the owner. Yeah, he was right. The base literally crumbled every time I moved the machine. It was spider heaven under that game. A nice dark, musty place with all the roaches they want. I must have killed at least 10 so far.
The first day of breaking ground has proved to be quite productive. I started by disassembling the chair section and tearing away all the nasty particleboard from the frame of the base. In the second picture, you can see that the water damage was so severe, it split the wood in half longways.
The third picture shows the base being rebuilt. And the fourth shows the application of the new paint. Not bad for a days work, if I do say so myself
Anyways, enjoy and stay tuned!
