My $25 Space Invaders Deluxe

What makes it "Deluxe" over the original?

Phet's touch :)

For Space Invaders Deluxe, a few twists were added to this time-honored classic to make it more interesting and difficult. There are two different flying saucers. For example, one is steadily visible and worth a 'random' number of points between 50 and 300, the other blinks in and out and can only be hit when visible for 500 points. From the second wave on, various other features appear such as invaders that split into two when you shoot them and flying saucers that drop alien reinforcements.

Can you get the bezel off? If so, no need for lock drilling. Stick your arm in there with a little "stubby" screw driver and un-do the cam from the backside. If your bezel's locked in place......nevermind.

That is going to look amazing when you are done. Even though it is such an old school game it is among the most played at my house. Nice score.

I agree! I can't wait to see it all finished.

Nice pickup, Phet.

I played a few games of SI Deluxe a few weeks ago in Vegas at the Pinball Hall of Fame and it is a fun game. The mirror effect on this game is a nice touch.

Thanks guys, I am totally psyched for this one. I have pushed all other projects back to focus on it. Ed, my bezel is locked tight.

Does anyone know where I can get the proper plexi moon piece for the inside? Are there repros for the starfield background? If you have a moon for sale (must be NICE) let me know.

3 full moons right here for ya phet!

I would love to get a new starfield background too but I don't think they have been reproduced.

The paint forensics (your pics) tell a tale. It would appear that the base color was red, then blue, then white was the last color. That's kinda cool. They must have used a white primer mixed in with the final layer.

Hey guys, I started a thread in the help section, but thought I'd post here too. I installed a rebuilt power supply, motherboard with the 8 in 1 already installed and the daughter/sound card into this SID. The game menu comes up fine and I am able to toggle thru the selections and start a game. But sometimes the player 1 button won't register a game start. (Could that be a dirty leaf contact?) When it does work, the game plays fine and all buttons work as they should. If I try to start a 2 player game though, the game starts fine, and the 1 player controls work fine, but when the 2nd player starts, only the fire button works and the directional buttons do nothing. You can't move your shooter. Any ideas? Is there a dip setting for turning off the player 2 controls? I thought of the cocktail setting, but the screen doesn't flip. I just lose the directional controls. Thanks!

I assume the header pins on the control input header are tarnished as I have lost the P1 button a few times. Reseating that connector usually fixes it.
