Another dead row purchase. This one has a silly story behind it. I was checking out and settling my bill for my $10 Karate Champ, when a frantic Chris ran up to me and said, hey man, they just passed the Deluxe with no bids, didn't you want it? I suppose I said, walked back out into the warehouse, offered them $25 (the auction was over) and they accepted. Got it home, cleaned off the mold and dirt, and here's where it stands:

Not too bad, but I still ordered the Stencil kit from Rich and found a complete working boardset with Braze's 8 in 1 installed. This unit powers up, but I only get a rug pattern and some humming. At least the monitor works and the Colored overlay is in good shape. I'll be doing a full restore on it, starting this weekend. Glass Bezel is in really good shape. One question. Did these come with the same Black Light Moon that Space Invaders used?

Nice pickup Phet. Looks pretty good. I had a SI deluxe years ago, sold it to a friend, then he sold it after maybe a year. Kinda wish I still had it. If I remember right it doesn't have the moon, but a city maybe? I can't quite remember....

No, it was a blue base on the moon. The cardboard backing was different too IIRC.

You can see it in this picture

Phet, I hate you.

Stencil kit? That original sideart looks beautiful. Is the other side messed up or something???

Great deal! Glad you got a glass bezel .. those rock. Did you check the power supply? Put a meter on it and watch it for a while to make sure its stable. Mine used to bug out all the time until I put in a switcher, now its pretty solid.

Looks good man! Did you say a Karate Champ for $10? I'd like to see that one too.

EDIT: Found your Karate Champ post and responded accordingly. Carry on.

I think up to date best deals I got were a $50 dedicated track and field and a free upright hard drivin. but those are rare deals in these parts! damn phet your one lucky dude!

What he said.

Plus, damn that's a great score for $25! With a Braze multi kit too! Congrats, that's gonna look awesome in Galaxy Blue...

Yeah, I also don't get why you want to redo the artwork. Looks pretty damn good from here. Unless there's some damage that doesn't show in the pics. The cabinet isn't watered or anything, is it?

Just following up on what some others have said.....The moon and "space" backdrop are different from Space Invaders. Also, a missing -5VDC can kill ALL the RAM if left running that way for extended periods of time.

I would just touch that up personally, the side art looks really great, at least in the pictures you posted. Also, I hate you ;)

Definately check the powersupply. -5v missing will give you a rug.

What they said... http://www.elektronforge.com/TestMdwPS.htm
Working boardset may not fix the problem if the PS is flaky... If you find out yours is bad, TNT was selling working SI power supply boards a while back, not sure if they have any more.

And of course I have to point out the BrentRadio Space Invaders resource page... http://www.brentradio.com/SpaceInvaders.htm

I got a partially rebuilt power supply along with the boards and multikit from the same guy. As to the restencil, I have been thru this before on my Moon Patrol and Berzerks. They look OK, and probably would satisfy most folks that think restoring games is too much work, but when the paint is flaking, the plywood is delaminating, big gouges and corners that need filling and rebuilding respectively, it is just better to redo the whole friggin' thing. Trust me. Plus I still need to bleach and wash out all the mold and mildew I can still smell. I have to drill out the back door locks before I can get in. Here are pics of the other side:
