I recently bought a MVS 4 slot off an operator. On the front of the cabinet there are two slots for a memory card, one one the underside of the control panel, and the other on the front between the control panel and coin door. This one has a label with and arrow. The one on the CP has a cover, removed in the photo below.

The slot is not connected to the MVS and there is no cables. Same goes with the headphone jacks. Are these normally connected on an MVS, or is it some kind upgrade that operators need to buy?

Also is my the MVS unit installed the way that it came originally? See photos below:

looks like your cab originally was a 2 slot cab

the 2 slots mount like this

this is because the 2 slot board has the mem card reader and headphone jacks built in

on the 4 slot there would be a metal shelf that is part of the metal cp
on thhis shelf you would mount the mem card reader and headphone jacks
then they would attach to the 4 slot board by a cable that hooks into one of thoes ide looking connectors on your board (the other ide style connectors are for the el pcbs that would light each mini marquee as it was chosen)

it would seem that oyur cab is a 2 slot cab with a 4 slot cp (or it was modfied at some point)

also you can find instant info about anything neo related on this site

Wow weird, my CP has the shelf and the cabinet has the slot.

Also the weird thing is that my shelf does not have that center piece that a 2 slot would mount as in the photo you attached...

When I look at the serial tag it does indeed say that it is a MVS-2:

So the question is where do I get the cable to have a memory slot? Also do the 4 slot cabinets not have headphone jacks?

i have been thrue 4 2 slots (buy em cheap restore em and then sell high) and have never had a mem card but you still gotta have the reader and jacks to make it a real neo

Those cards go for bucks and are pretty rare on ebay. You can see the board and cable up to $100. My 6-slot didn't come with one either. Anybody ever use the memory card or headphone jack? I've never tried. You got me curious now. I might just do that tonight.

I use my card quite often actually. Its nice to be able to save where you are (Most games) and resuming later on.

You don't have to have an MVS memory card to use the feature either. I'm using some static ram PCMCIA cards that have a nice easy to replace battery instead of the Neo's soldered type.

I think I picked my cards up on ebay for $20 each shipped.

Never used the headphone jacks though.

Sorry about the confusion, I meant the PCB for the card. Took me awhile to find one. Still don't use it.

what games do you have that can save? I can save on metal slug?

Doh, yeah, I misread that too.

As for the PCB's, yes, hard to come by. I have an extra set of cables and board that has no headphone jacks I'll be putting up for sale soon. The headphone jacks got broke off but the card slot works fine on my 6 slot.

As for what games save, pretty much all the games I play do. Metal slug X I use it on, Money Puzzle exchanger, Magic Drop 2 and 3, and others.

Thanks, I am still a little confused, are you saying you can use pcmcia memory as a MVS save card?

I am interesting in the broken board, how much?

yes and no ther are some compatibality problems with some of thoes cards when using them on a mvs id go check over at the neogeo forums about what exact ones you can use

No I don't think that would work.

They have to be SRAM cards, like this I believe:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=220461379903

I cant find anything on one card I have other than PN: SM002M-NN which doesnt turn up much on google. Its a blank white, no real name or specs on it.

The other I have is a Fujisoku, also called an infolio PCMCIA sram card.

Both cards work great in the 2 mvs card readers I have. One on a four slot, the other a 6.

As for selling the pcb with cables.. I dont know what price.. And I haven't taken it out of the cab yet, could be a while (few weeks or more) other projects in the way.
