Hi guys. A friend from out of state sent me some pics of a neo geo cart with no label. He's trying to identify it and doesn't have a mvs motherboard. Does anyone know what it is please? I have a suspicion that it's a bootleg because of those green wires.
Thanks

So even if it's not areofighters 2 we can safely assume that those wires are a modification to make a bootleg and turn it into something else right?

Most likely yes, from the picture you provided it very much looks like a typical MVS boot.

It appears as though everything is a match except for the extra rom chip in the upper right and the jumper wire. The upper right chip and the one below it looks like programmed chips because of the "windows". The rest look like they are from the manufacturer.

Windowed EPROMs is not always a bootleg thing, lots of official carts used them as well. What I have not seen is that style of chip used in your top picture, those look incorrect. The couple EPROMs and janky jumper wires could be a repair, but since all the Rom chips on the top board are not official it looks like a converted bootleg.

Yea. That chip with the wire looks odd to me too. But it's on the the board scan picture through the link. Here's the screenshot and the one in question also. It's at the very top on my friend's cart and second from top on the board scan.

Yeah and they clearly changed the jumper positions to accommodate the extra chip on the bottom running EPROMs that don't match the game, so that's a gimme, and the top board with the giant screened chip positions are not on Toshiba chips so that looks wrong too.

Factory eproms will have colour strips on the ic like in KOF95. The P1 and P2 pencil in on the eprom is a dead give away that it is a boot

Then it will be interesting to see what game it has been modified to. I already have an areofighters 2 cart anyhow so hopefully it's a boot of something cool. Lol

I received the cart in question today. Turns out to still be an areofighters 2 game. Must just be some funky repair work. Was kinda hoping for something different. Lol.
