I had this non-working puzzle bobble, can't even remember where I got it, but took it apart today and cleaned contacts and got it working.

1) Is this a bootleg or a repair? The boards look legit but the masked roms have been replaced and some hacking/jumper wires and addition of LS08.

2) If it is a repair, is it worth the same as a non-repaired one because it looks like someone modded it vs "bootleg" (if there is technically a difference).

3) I am not interested in creating bootlegs but since I already have a "Bust a Move" am interested in modifying this to a different game or learning more about it or tinkering etc. That is part of the fun of this hobby.

4) How is modding a MVS cart to play a different game different than modding a Nintendo Vs. board (John has a whole site dedicated to .VS mix and match) or modding a PC10 cart to play a different game? seems like a bit of double standard on this modding practice.

That game wasn't originally a Puzzle Bobble, but they are original SNK boards. That is a conversion.

Bootleg or conversion, is there a difference? Technically, no.... however in my understanding of how the community defines the words, bootleg is a complete re-engineer and reproduction of the game/cartridge with cheaper or lower quality components. A conversion still uses original parts but reprograms/replaces the program and graphics ROMs to make a different game.

I got excited for a bit, thought this might help me fix my cart, I have an Art of fighting 3 that has a similar mod, but the wires are all unconnected.
The mod on mine is for the Program roms. What's strange is that all the roms are mask roms, not eproms.

I am not positive it wasn't Puzzle Bobble...the boards are the same just w/ the additional LS08, Eprom replacements, and jumper changes, which may require the LS08. I agree though it likely wasn't Puzzle Bobble and like your explanation of Conversion/Bootleg.

Might dig some more and try to figure out what the LS08 does.

I am surprised this thread didn't get more posts yet. Must be dead on Klov during the last week before school starts. Definitely interested in the work that was done on this board to get it to work.

Pretty sure the extra wiring is there because a regular Puzzle Bobble cart has 4 V roms, yours has 2, so they must be larger. Don't think that board can usually access larger V roms.
