Well, after no more than a week of being a part of the forum, I was able to get my hands on that 4 Slot MVS cab I was hunting for. :)

It's in really decent shape, even better than what I originally thought. I have been asking around on Neo Geo, and I thought I would bring it up here as well.

It has a couple of hopefully minor problems going on, all related to the left player controls. These controls are definitely pretty worn down, and for the most part they work. But in games where you need to move up, such as Super Sidekicks, the up controls are very unresponsive. You can generally move an inch or so if you hold this stick, and then it just stops. Also, the 4th or D button on that side seems to be activating even when not pressed, causing characters in fighting games etc. to kick intermittently. The microswitch seems worn out, and does not "click" when pressed, it just kind of pushes in. It's the only button that does not click properly.

I have to go in over the weekend and clean the hell out of the cab, but in the meantime, any wise words of advise regarding this?

Thank you

Could be a loose ground on joystick. Why not just replace the entire stick itself? This is plugged into a mvs harness and not a jamma harness right? Replace the worn micro switches too and you should be fine. Hell they are like .40 cents or so each.

Thanks for the reply.

I went ahead and rewired the joystick to the harness (yes, it's MVS) and I cleaned the connector to the motherboard as well as cleaning the contacts on the joystick. Now, the joystick is fixed. Micro still needs to be replaced on the D button, and I am getting some static when a game is run from the 1st slot. Going to be giving the entire mobo a thorough cleaning including all contact points as well, so I will see if that works.

Clean the carts too...

Disassemble them and use a pink pencil eraser on the contact edges.

I fixed it!

Feels almost laughably stupid, but after spending a morning cleaning carts, slots, and the mobo, there was still no fix to my static problem. I sat the thing in test mode, and noticed still, it was only when on the first slot that this static would appear.

Noticed it was doing a check of all the LED's in the marquee, which were broken. Even still, they were ringing, and the first one was giving off nasty interference! I pulled out the LED panel and put it closer to the monitor to confirm, and the problem got even worse. Figured out that was the culprit, unplugged the son of a bitch, and now I'm good to go!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Although it's a bit of a face slapper, it's extremely rewarding to think that I have managed to solve several problems by myself for the most part already, with a little bit of frustrating perserverance. ;)
