Working my way through this game. Went hunting for the DIPs so I could set it to freeplay. This is what I found.
Before:
Somehow, I don't think this card reader is likely to work in this state. Someone gave me a free penny, though.
Hard to see, but there was at least a half inch of dust built up on this thing.
After:
Monitor is doing better, but not there yet:
Top (left) side has waving and some dimness, though it's exacerbated by some magnetic interference. Cap kit was missing a few parts, so this isn't completely rebuilt… But most of it is done, along with a new fly. Hope this isn't a tube issue, but I don't have anything else to test the chassis on. Crossing my fingers that the last correct caps & B+ filter cap solve the last of the problems.
I can tell I'm not quite seasoned at this stuff yet. When I fired the monitor up, I was dismayed to see that the picture was looking completely jacked. Then I realized I was an idiot and adjusted the sync & focus. Durrrrr.
Control panel is removed, depopulated, and everything is cleaned out. Someone spilled a coke down this thing at some point, so lots of stuff was pretty nasty. Soaked all the buttons & hardware in isopropyl alcohol, and they're feeling much better now. CPO cleaned up fairly well, but I'll need a new one at some point. Alas, the Quarter Arcade reproductions are not correct for this machine…*A fact which I learned after I bought one. The panel itself still has some stubborn adhesive that needs to come off, then some sanding and painting to get it looking nice.
As a nice bonus, the original (dusty) manuals for the board and monitor were in the bottom of the cab… Along with the unused pricing stickers. I don't see scans of them online already, so I'll be firing up the scanner again soon.
