MultiVector (Zektor) progress

It's a waste of 6100's in my book. Hate to see someone looking for one to complete a classic have to compete with people wanting one for mame crap.

If anyone is interested in "saving" a 6100, you can "rescue" mine for $800. :)

In the meantime, I'll get back to my other projects:

1. Painting my Robotron black and install Street Fighter II (Turbo!)
2. Convert my spare Star Castle into a soap-box derby racer

:)

How am I hacking classics?

The cabinet is a Space Duel that can be converted back in about 5 minutes... The control panel I am using is a spaceduel that had already been converted so had extra holes... I am not painting/stripping the sides...

I'm with shilmover on this one. I mean, if it is reversible what is the problem? I don't get it. How is this different than a Playchoice10? Or a Jamma cabinet?

Yeah, I'm pretty die hard too about keeping a classic-classic, but I see no problems with this, alot of great work being done- and most of it's on the software end.

I don't think Arc is talking about people using this on a cab they already have or adding the option to a game they have. I think what he is saying is mamers buying up 6100s to throw into their crap cabs when people who are restoring a Tempest or other game can't find one for a reasonable price. I can't speak for him but I can agree if that is his feeling.

I dunno, man- If I was building a mame machine- a 6100 (or any xy for that matter) would be the LAST monitor i would want in it, too much work for zero gain. A mamer can grab any ol' pc monitor they want.

These Zectors are fairly rare, and this one of the few projects I've seen even take it to the finish.

I've got to believe very few "mamers" are building vector-mames. I bet less than 1% based on the number of zektor zvg pcbs made. Many run vector games on computer monitors.

And, Arc was replying to shil's thread, which is clearly a case of a reversible "mod"...I don't think you interpreted his comments correctly...it seems to me he was passing judgement on what shil (and several others of us) are doing.

BTW,

I have started looking at re-writing the menu. There are things about it I really like and things I really hate... :)

The original source for it was lost, so I am starting from scratch...

Feel free to send me ideas.

Currently, I am thinking of adding these features:
- Menu remembers the last game you ran (right now it resets).
- Help option
- Configurable games... IE, I dont want SW/ESB displayed
- As a screen saver, the menu should show the attract mode for random games for 30 seconds or so (like the 60-in-1s)

This is sooo cool that you are doing this.

The configurable screens for games would be great. Would you keep the current breakdown by manufacturer? One of the things I liked was the manufacturers logo at the top of each menu.

The screen saver is another good idea, if there was any screen/tube that would be susceptible to burn in, it would be these.

I like the logos at the top of each menu so I would expect to keep it as is...

Hey guys,

Its no big deal. Arc can say what he wants...

My first entry into this hobby was a cabinet I was given to be mame'd. I have yet to build a MAME system... Its still sitting in my garage. :D

I have restored many classics and brought them back from the dead...

Quick Update:

Someone else local is also using a SB Live! card with no apparent issues, so if you are building one, I would recommend you go out and get one of these cards (the PC recycle place had 2 extras).

It figures, I just sold 4 of these at a yard sale for next to nothing. Fortunately they made about a gazillion of these. I will keep my eyes open for more at the flea market. Thanks for the part number too!

Ain't that always the case? :) LMK if you cant find one and I can track one down for you...

Looks great mate.
Keep us updated :D

Will do...

Glad to see you working on this setup. Any chance you'd share your configuration? (autoexec.bat, config.sys, etc...)

Also, I'd be happy to help with the menu if you're still considering a rewrite.

Its been on hold for a bit. I would like to start it up again...

send me a PM with your email address. I would love help on the menu.

I will share my config once I dig the cabinet out of my garage and get going on it again.
