All,

I have been tossing this idea around...

If i was to offer a "kit" that has at least the following:
- i-Pac
- IDE to CF Adapter
- CF card (with a DOS setup initially, Linux when it gets finalized)
- Sound Blaster card (if i can find enough)

The following would NOT be included:
- ZVG Board
- Computer/Motherboard
- Control Panel

Talking to Dave about doing a CP Harness to match this.

Thoughts? Would there be interest?

One issue is how to connect the spinner without a DOS compatible OptiPac.

the Mini-pac does both key input and spinner input.

All the wiring is there too for buttons. You have to buy the trackball/spinner interface or you could make up your own. It uses an IDE hard drive cable/connector for the connections. Wouldn't be hard to make a custom harness that would plug in!

I have an older minipac that is PS2. Looks like they come USB but you can get an adapter.

I know the optipac does PS2 and emulates a PS2 mouse

Have not gotten this to work...

Old style mouse hack?

Looking at that now... Got some good pointers to articles on this?

I may build a small board to support it.

I would be in for a kit as long as the software is turn key or close to it.

That's the hope...

You supply the computer, monitor, zvg board, control panel, controls (spinner, buttons, joysticks), I supply the rest.

Just looking at what it would take/cost to put together.

Yessssssssssssss.......

Yes, I am onboard with this project.

I've got the ZVG and CP + on the list for artwork. This would be sweet and simple if the harness is labeled to make it idiot proof (myself).

It would be great if someone here could recommend the most suitable stick/button/spinner setup. Maybe one of the KLOV suppliers could offer a package deal on that, too?

IMO, the spinner should be as close to Tempest style possible. I really like the green/red ball top joysticks - 4 inchers? Leaf switches also seem more appropriate.

Harness and other stuff would be great! If decent price count me in....

...I'm sure we'd all like to see a video tutorial of your setup with computer, etc. - that would really help out us noobs.

Great stuff!

Working on the pricing now... The hardest part would be to get a spinner controller that works in DOS. I am fiddling with hacking a mouse to see how easy that is. Depending on that, I may build a controller to do it.

As for the joysticks, I am using Wico, 3.5" sticks. I will work with some folks to see if we can get a package of that made available too (Joystick, buttons, etc).

I believe the spinners that have PS2 interfaces will be seen as a mouse in
DOS. You would just need to get the appropriate dos mouse drivers.

I think the turbotwist support ps2.
