MultiTaito boards

Mine is going into an elevator action themed cab. CP already has JS and 2 buttons. I will be playing mostly ZK, EA, JH and BB. Would like to have dual play BB, but I have a second CP I could swap in later down the road.

...but need to make sure its working properly first.

The thing I'm wondering about is what would be the best control panel setup. I'm assuming horizontal monitor, single joystick with 2 buttons. But should the joystick be 4 way or 8 way?

It seems the horizontal 2 button would be the best setup...

Single player horizontal games:

1. Chack'n Pop (H1,4W,2B)
2. Elevator Action (H1,4W,2B)
3. Jungle Hunt (H1,8W,1B)
4. Liquid Kids (H1,8W,2B)
5. Rainbow Islands (H1,2W,2B)
6. Rainbow Islands Extra Version (H1,2W,2B)
7. Rastan (H1,8W,2B)
8. The New Zealand Story (H1,8W,2B)
9. Zoo Keeper (H1,4W,1B)

Dual player horizontal games:

10. Bubble Bobble (H2,2W,2B)
11. Nastar (H2,8W,2B)
12. Puzzle Bobble (H2,2W,1B)
13. Space Invaders DX (H2,2W,1B)

Vertical games?:

14. Arkanoid (V1,1B)
15. Arkanoid 2: Revenge of Doh (V1,1B)
16. Lunar Rescue (V2,2W,1B)
17. Qix (V1,4W,2B)
18. Return of the Invaders (V1,2W,1B)
19. Space Invaders (V1,2W,1B)
20. Super Qix (V1,4W,1B)

The games I probably would play the most would be in this order:

1. Zoo Keeper (H1,4W,1B)
2. Rastan (H1,8W,2B)
3. Jungle Hunt (H1,8W,1B)
4. Elevator Action (H1,4W,2B)

All of the rest would just be bonus games to me...

Anyone else thinkin' the same?

The Elevator Action that was at CAX is mine. It was/is running one of these multi-Taito boards. I got it for E.A., J.K. and ZK in that order. No room for each game individually, though each would warrant it if I had a little more space. It is using the standard E.A. control panel setup.

NOTE - The "vertical" games listed above run in "horizontal" mode. There are no games that run in "vertical" mode on this board.

I was kinda wondering that...

....does it stretch the image, fill the sides with artwork or did they adjust the game layout to make it horizontal? I haven't looked for pics yet, I guess I should start looking now...

You can search youtube.com for a vid. Search "gameroom classics taito" and it will show a vid of how they look.

So I bought one of these boards way back when before these problems were known, then bought a whole multi machine and stuffed the unopened package in my arcade storage cabinet and forgot about it. Does it work, but just have the 10 game image or is it non-functional completely? Somebody help a brother out and save me 10 pages of reading please. :)

My understanding is the 10 game image works fine... it's the 20 game image that does not work properly.

I can confirm the 10 works fine - I also pre-bought the new board and just recently found time to get it installed and running. The 20 has issues on a few games, making them pretty much unplayable. Swapped the card for one with the new 10 image and it works fine from what I can tell. The consensus is also that the 10 has a better menu.

Once I get through a ton of other projects (both hobby & non related) I plan on attempting to get that 20 working correctly - I played around with it for about an hour and it looks possible, though I'm not going to make any promises...

They re-arrange the verticals. Example... Arkanoid has the score, high score, etc on the right 1/4 of the screen instead of up top, etc...

It's looks fine/normal. No abnormal stretching.

Wow, i had not kept up with this thread and it got really long. In a nutshell, it sounds like the boards are not working with the 20-in-1 image. Makes me glad I have a factory 20-in-1 PCB. Maybe I missed it in the thread, but I thought the original image worked on the alternate revision PCB?

I am still looking for a Taito mini cabinet/game if anyone has one available (near Missouri).

Apologies for resurrecting such an old thread, but I just got my hands on one of these boards. It has 20 games and I believe it to be an original factory one. The menu says 1.0 in the corner, and I know for a fact that it was extracted from one of those fugly tabletops. Also, I think the games that glitch out on the repro 20 game image work on mine. Rastan, Rainbow Islands and some others. I should be able to tell that they are faulty right away, right?

I have done a lot of googling and found a lot of contradictary info on these boards. One thing that caught my eye/ear is that the jump sound on Bubble Bobble is missing. Once not heard, this cannot be ununheard! :p So my question is this: those of you who have the 10 game image - is this problem also present there? If not, can I get a discrete pointer to where I might find said image?

Thanks! :)
