Just curious how many klovers own multicades and if you own a machine thats dedicated as a "multicade" or just threw a board in a DK cab or something.

Its funny because due to my lack of space in my bar/gameroom I have two Multicades in my house and I recently got into an argument with one of my console fanboy friends. He has a nasty looking MAME machine. For whatever reason I HATE MAME arcades. Dont get me wrong I love MAME but I just cant stand playing a MAME standup. Maybe my experiences with them have been bad and Ive seen way to many horrible MAME projects on the net. Regardless my question is am I a hypocrite? And do you own a Multicade? lol

I have a 60-1 and a 1255-1. Both made for those purposes.

I thought the software - in the chips of those multiboards - was ported directly from MAME.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...

Hate to break the news to you... that 1255-in-1 is a MAME PC.. you've got a MAME cabinet right there. The 60-in-1 is running MAME too, but at least it's a dedicated board. That 1255-in-1 is a Personal Computer with hard drive and all strapped to a JAMMA I/O board...

You have a MAME... live with it! :)

Both of your boards run MAME. It's the frontend you don't like, MAME has nothing to do with it.

I have a 48/1 and a MAME computer.

Sure the 48/1 is MAME, but it feels just like any other real arcade game because the guts appear the same, the monitor 15khz, and the speakers are the same.

Sounds like a MAME computer, not a MAME cab.

You can't have the right joystick/monitor orientation/speakers for every game. That's the trade-off you make to play multiple hundreds (thousands) or games in a single machine.

I've got a Multi-Williams cab and a Mame cab. The Mame cab is scratch built and one of the most used cabs in the gameroom. A well done Mame cab is a really nice thing. I have no need for any other multi board as I can play all those games on Mame.

The Multi-Williams cab gives me the correct layout for Defender and Stargate which aren't setup on my Mame cab.

You can have a MAME cab do the same thing. Sounds like you chose not to.

Why have 48-1 when you can have 7000+ in one with mame/other emus/pc games etcetc hehe..When done right they are a great addition to the gamesroom.

I need all my extra space for more pins! I would like an ice old beer or zeke's peak and a dedicated robotron though :)

I have an Ultracade cocktail with a bunch of add ons. I like it, the kids love it, and it gets the most play... which isn't a surprise since I have over 250 games on it.

I've got three Multi's at the moment (well 4 if you count the UltraPin). Two of them are AS Multi's (for the wife and kids) and the other one is a Jrok Multi-WMS for me!

I know its a mame emulator on mc boards. Just seems to me the response time with the joysticks/buttons seems more natural than some of the mame machines I have played. Ive come across a few MAMEs in my gameroom days and there always seems to be a handful of games with frame rate problems and shitty control response time. Maybe lousy hardware is the main reasoning for this but I dont know what it is it just feels more gimmicky than the MC boards. Thats just my opinion.

Again...that 1255-in-1 IS a MAME PC... a crappy one at that frankly.

Play a few games running on a Core 2 Duo at 3.8ghz+ and then report back if there are lag issues...

:)

I have a 60-1 and a 19-1 and I utilize MAME32Pro on my desktop via an x arcade unit. Sure I'd like to own all the cool (in my book) classics, but I don't have the room or $ to do that at this time. That said, I won't hack up a good dedicated cab to multi, for sure.

Interestingly, due to a monitor glitch, I plugged a computer monitor into the 19-1 and it honestly was just like looking at my MAME32!! But when switched back to the arcade monitor, the games a have more "fat", or dense look to them. Or maybe that's just my perception..

When the colors on my Taito converted 19-1 cab are acting properly, and with the addition of leafed Wicos, playing Robotron here is just like playing a dedicated cab at Cedar Point! IMO.

Ms. Pac-Man runs a 48-1. Using the original harness and the JAMMA adapter I use has jumpers that set the start buttons to also act as fire buttons. No hacks necessary except for adding a ground wire. I am guilty of using a flat tube VGA, only because the original tube died, but I acually love the picture on it now.

Emulation is cool and all that, but without the original cabinet, controls and artwork I might as well play it on my xbox. The feeling is just not there.

So your MAME machine is more responsive than everyone elses MAME machine.
Got it. ;)

Not all Multiboards are emulation...

Check out the CPSI, CPSII and Neo Geo Multiboards.

I much prefer the 60-1 to most PC setups. It's so much easier, and cheaper. So much less to set up.

I do have a modded Xbox that I put in my Candy Cab. It does have Mame on it. It works, but doesn't work right.

But I prefer the FBAXXX emulator. FBAXXX for Xbox is SO much better than MAME for xbox. But it only supports CPSI, CPSII, Neo Geo and a handful of other random games (mostly semi-classic shooters and maniac shmups).

The Xbox also has a CPSIII emulator on it. But CPSIII emulation is kinda meh. But I have hard drive copies of Street Fighter Anniversary for Third Strike.

I also have hard drive copies of Xbox games like Castle Shikagami II, Psviariar, Soul Calibur II, and Capcom Collections (though they don't support verticle mode).

I've got two IREM Madonna candy cabs that are going to end up with PCs in em, running PC titles as well as emulation.

Also in the middle of an Interstellar project that'll become a dedicated Daphne machine.

Oh, and I suppose the Neo-Geo MVS-2-13 counts as a multicade, too.
