I have a friend who wants a few arcade games but doesn't have the room nor the money to afford them all. After talking to him for awhile I realized that he's probably best served through a multicade or some other variation of one. I have an old generic cocktail cabinet that doesn't have anything in it so I figured I might as well make it useful. I'm posting this in hopes that someone has some helpful suggestions as to where to get some of the things I need.

A monitor, multicade with Ms. Pac-man (probably just find one on KLOV for sale), and a harness.

I'm not planning on doing this project for a few months because I have to finish up my SFII but I figure its best to start gathering early because it won't be long before I'll need a new toy to play with :)

I know I've got some coin mechs and controls I can throw in there but I don't have a monitor and I'm not sure the best multicade PCB out there.

As for monitors, I'll need a 19" or so.... so that puts me in the market if anyone has suggestions or a local pick up perhaps (Connecticut).

Now that I think about it... I'm not entirely sure I have a power supply so I'll probably need one of those :)

Jeez the more I think about this the more I need...

So whats that give us, PCB, Monitor, Power Supply, Harness.... and everything... erm I mean anything else I left out.

Suggestions are appreciated since I haven't really built one from this far out, typically I do aesthetics and some minor electrical work.

Nixs sells the 48-in-1's for $75 shipped. Give him a shout. He also has the 60-in-1 if you want a few more games and trackball support, but sounds like in your case the 48 will do.

For a monitor, I'd search your local CL or classified ads for a 19" or 20" CRT computer monitor and find a way to mount it. They are cheap, sometimes even free since the average joe dosent want them anymore. They are also more reliable (IMO) that an old arcade monitor. The Multicade PCB has VGA out and it dosent look bad IMO.

JAMMA Boards.com still have their harness on sale for $10. They also sell a decent switching PS with a 5v LED readout.

Since it appears that your "friend" is dialing 1-800-broke-ass I would simply build him a MAME machine out of that cocktail you have.
you can pick up a a working computer from Goodwill or Craigslist including a 19" - 21" CRT for next to nothing if not FREE "or buy the Intel Atom mini boards for ~$80.
Buy an IPAC2, download MAME and it's componenst and viola.
This way your friend can have an assload of games on one system that doesn't need a whole lot of room and doesn't cost a whole lot of money.
