multiasteroids/lunar lander artwork/cp interest?

Bump bump
Anything new to report on this project?

Its still moving ahead.. Waiting on a regular supply of LL
thrusters from Ram Controls (I know I know.. lets skip talking about that again).

The thruster interface is in the works and since you asked.. here is a
small taste of the CPO artwork being put together (still a work in progress).

Me like :D
Thanks

I have decided to put the brakes on this project. Why?.. I cant see this project as a success moving forward as long as it requires the involvement of Ram Controls. And unfortunately I cannot eliminate him without scrapping the whole project.

Thanks,

Dang. Well... if this goes forward I'll be in for a set up. Artworks looks terrific. Love that you included orange in the cp art.

Too bad, that was a nice looking CP you came up with. I admit I was ready to see the usual ugly multi cpo, but you did a good, restrained, true to original job.

I think you made the right call on not wagering any of your own money before knowing if the other pieces would be available, BTW.

As an alternate plan, you could achieve instant Legend status if you released the art in vector form, or the highest resolution you have it in, as soon as you decide there is no commercial viability in this. I would use it. What is the spacing between the A/AD layout buttons? Stock or did you have to move them together a bit?

Seems a shame for this project to be scraped just because of the Ram Controls problems especially when it appears the product we need, the LL thrust controller appears to be a real and complete product. I don't blame you though after reading that thread
If you have a pending order with Dave post here. RamControls.com
It's a real shame what's going on with RamControls. If Dave has the controllers for sale or maybe just the parts so we could build them ourselves, maybe they can be obtained by someone that knows Dave and lives near him. Just a thought. If new thrusters are not an option then their's always used original controllers.
I think that once Scott releases the Asteroids multi kit their will be a few that will want the thruster option so I hope work on the interface and control panel will continue even if we have to find our own thruster controller.

I agree
in thinking about this more in reselling Daves items for other "distributers" in this hobby/buisness
and especially for the thruster problem
I would think it might be problematic for ANY company to sell these or ANY Ram parts
especially with pending Ram orders.

example someone resells these thrusters on their site as "in stock"
but then to find out Dave has pending orders with the same product to other collectors.

I think the best option is to find a Ram alternative and start mfg some of these "needed"
parts so other projects can continue.

We could always have someone else reproduce the thruster. Does anyone know a good Machinist? I have a extra thruster that can be used for measurements. There is really not much to one of these, its not like a Star Wars Controller.

To keep the cost down and to keep the control panel less crowded you could make a new thruster 3/4 or 1/2 the original size. It could even be a one lever T-handle more like a shifter. Nothing say's it has to be just like the original.

Just a note on the CPO layout prevoiusly posted
The button layout is exaxtly same spacing of the original Asteriods
The cut ou for the thuster is also sized for the Original LL
Plenty of realestae on this panel to feature full sized controls

On another side note
The Prototype did have an area on the LL for a smaller thuster.

All good ideas.. That was my thinking as well Rikitiki re: doing business with Ram Controls = BAD

I'll look into getting the lunar lander thruster repo'd. My gut is telling me it wont have the volume to make it financially feasible but I'll dig into it.

Rikitiki you mentioned in an email you have a contact you could share with me for one of the componenets.

If anyone has any Metal fab contacts.. please PM me.

Thanks,
Mike

Send me photos of what it looks like and I'll see if any of my sources could do some of the parts we need.

Well here's the thread from Ram showing pictures of his repo
http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=131738&highlight=lunar+lander+thruster
It seems to have many parts and would be a job to get remade but it has already been done so it's possible.
The Asteroids Multi game is very playable without the thruster by using just the thrust button on Asteroids so some my want to use their current Asteroids control panel with no thrustor. You could re screen a new Asteroids CPO with a new designed artwork to make it look more like a multi game but then again the LL thruster just has that cool factor.
Maybe we should get a head count on who would want what.. After all it seems some have already got a few new thrusters from Ram and I am sure some are to replace originals so that might leave the old ones for resale and for multi game use.
I'll start it off, I already have an original control panel so I don't really need the thruster but I would like a control panel and new overlay and interface for the multi game.

Malice, tell me more about your hardware interface. Is it going to take an analog pot as input and then plug into the multiboard?

I guess what I am asking is: will I be able to build/hack together a thruster that I like as long as it uses a XXk value pot, and have it work with the thruster interface board you are building?

/my stars. I may see a working A/AD/LL kit in my lifetime!

Yes it will intreface directly with the 5k pot. It will only be expecting a small
range of values from the pot since the original thruster didnt use the whole
pot range. The orig thruster is nothing more then a handle attached to a 5k pot
with a spring to pull it back. A simple design.. but getting anything made out
of metal these days isnt cheap.

I have made a LL thruster, so I know it's a bit tricky.

I also thought about smaller versions, for when this Multi was released

I am thinking we make this out of something that already exists

Like a 100mm (OK that's 4") steel tube, with 1 slot, instead of 2. Then we are modifying something rather than a scratch build

Maybe I could build a prototype

How about a single stick with a T-handle and put the abort button in the left side of the T-handle for the thumb.:)
