Hi all, I have an idea that I think is doable, but like always, I'm pretty sure I'm overthinking it..

I have a Defender cabinet, all original hardware and harness. I'd like to put in a JROK board to play Defender, Joust and Robotron, but have 3 separate control panels to swap out. I assume all I have to do is wire each control panel harness to match the required pinout on the Defender harness connecting to the two interface inputs on the JAMMA adapter. I assume this would suffice? Or do I need a different adapter? Robotron has the most inputs out of all of them (8 switches for joysticks and 2 start buttons), while Defender has 9 total.

Am I missing anything?

I don't think you are overthinking it. I have been researching quite a bit with the search function as well. I think maybe reaching out to GoldenAgeHarness https://goldenagearcadeparts.com/page12.html might be a good next step. They may be able to make something custom for you that won't require you to hack up the original harness while allowing you to do what you want to do. Keep us posted as I want to do the same when I have the funds!

I have that very setup and Ken (@Wldfire, Mr. Golden Age Arcade Parts) has what you need, like Mike said. Look to the Adapters page though: https://goldenagearcadeparts.com/page14.html

It clips into the existing Defender harness connectors and allows you to put a JAMMA board in there. He makes them set up for a multi-control panel scheme (blech) or just Defender. I had him do 3 CP harnesses for me since I lacked the tools, skill, knowledge at that time (debatable if that still applies! lol): one for a Defender/Stargate CP; one for Robotron, Bubbles & Splat! that you can also use for Joust, just flap w/the right stick; and one for Blaster/Sinistar using the 49-way optical stick. The Blaster/Sinistar CP has an extra connector for the optical stick. Highly recommend pickup up a proper 49-way for that too, grab an Arch Rivals stick if need be.

Ken was great to work with and figure out just what I wanted and needed, products are excellent and very easy to swap out panels. It's a much better option for me than a crowded multi-panel.

Geech — Did you use game specific CPOs or custom CPOs for each one?

Wasn't there a similar thread about this just recently? Feels like I've been answering this question a lot lately. That may have been running a jrok with a JAMMA harness though. As I mentioned there, I did this with a Stargate Cabaret. There's just not a lot of room on any of the control panels for the Williams cabarets, so a multi panel would just not work. I basically focused on most of the Williams games having both a Stargate/defender panel and Robotron/bubbles/splat panel. The biggest concern is getting the correct molexes with the right number of pins to make sure all of the controls on whatever number of control panels you decide all hook up to the game side molex(es) correctly.

my cabaret stargate has no art on the bezel and a different overlay . Is anyone reproducing that bezel and overlay? Mine needs a rehab .
