Multi-Williams Control Panels *caution*

Well these CP's have the studs pressed into the sheet metal from the top, rivet gun style.

I guess thats why certain things are sans pictures.... so you don't see what you are getting.. I checked the site for those a couple days ago but didn't pull the trigger.. glad I didn't.. even if you do get a refund, its always your tab to ship the crap back.
Stevens always been pretty good with me, but no way you can defend selling crap that you know is going to cause an issue with many of the people buying it.

My studs are all depressed, but it still sucks cuz I have to bondo the voids, then sand and seal the bondo, then paint the whole damn thing. Jack the price $30 and make sure to increase the prep work involved. Sounds about right to me.

Mine has the same issue, what do you use to seal the bondo?

You can use *oil based* spray poly over the bondoed areas, or just prime and paint the whole thing, which is what I am gonna do. I tried using the water-based poly on a CP once and the cheap shit turned milky white and peeled up as I was installing the CPO. It had been sitting for 3 days so shoulda been dry I woulda thought.

I emailed him again asking for a refund, but never got a reply back this time. So I take it as he doesn't plan on giving me a refund.

Just wanted to say, I finally got around to prepping this same CP for an overlay, and only 80% of my studs were depressed. 2 stuck up above the surface, and one was flush. I tried to use a punch to depress the 2 heads that were sticking up. One worked out OK, the other one, however, was completely knocked loose from the panel and had to be superglued (under the head), to get it to stay in place for bondo. Funny thing is, one of my studs was also loose from the factory and also had to be super-glued down. Then I applied a layer of bondo, sanded, then applied a layer of glaze putty, sanded, primed with 2 coats, painted 2 coats of satin black and called it good. I could have kept obsessing over it and made it totally flat, but I was getting sick of having to do this much work to a $75 "New" control panel. There are still bumps from the bondoed studs that are noticeable in the harsh light or when you rub your hand over the surface, but they aren't as severe a transition as it woulda been if I would have left the stud heads alone. Overall, looks nice, not perfect, time to move on. I'll post a pic of it tonight.

how high are the studs protruding over the metal of the panel? you could always use a file to file down the head of the stud, and then bondo to smooth it over.

Jim, do you actually read what's posted? Put down that bottle of Grampa's cough medicine. The panel has been painted and the overlay installed.

no i read that. i was just curious how much the studs were protruding prior to working on it and bondoing/painting.

got one over xmas, ground off the protrusions (EDIT: all studs were punched down, with only a little protrusion for each stud) and filled the gaps to make em smooth, undercoated and black enamel 3 coats over the top. a littloe extra work, but very happy with the result! overlay went on smooth as.

i have seem them done flush before but cant remember who did em!

I just got one of these multi-william control panels from arcadeshop (who now choose a new supplier for these) yesterday. Not sure if it was just mine, but the studs that are tacted on for the joysticks stick to far up. I realized this after I already applied my overlay. You can see the for studs stick up through the control panel overlay. I emailed Steven about this and he said he's going to see what his supplier can do about it. So I basically paid more money for a worst product which I also told him. He never said in the reply that he will refund or discount the control panel since it is clearly defective. I sent him another email asking for a refund or partial refund and waiting on his response. I would like to return the whole control panel, but my overlay is already applied on it. I just wanted to let you guys know about this problem since a lot of people were waiting for this to come in.
