Since I decided to finally pull out my 4 year old Pac-man project today, I figured that I'd better start putting together my multi-pac CP as well. It's built with parts bought at different times from all different parts of the country. Got the pre-fabbed and powder-coated Multi Pac CP from Arcadeshop. I then acquired a custom CPO file from a friend and had Rich print it for me. I next went to Bob for a new 2 1/4" translucent trackball w/illumination kit and a repro/custom 8-way Pac/Galaga joystick. Finally I purchased lighted buttons with chrome collars from Bryan out in Hawaii. This thing cost me about $150 to build. Even without a power source to light up all the hardware yet, I think it looks pretty sweet. Even though the blacks are clearly different shades, the texture of the powder coating on the CP matches the texture of the CPO almost perfectly:

Now the original cp on this machine was hacked to install Capcom Bowling many years ago by some op, so though I wanted to use it, it really was unsalvageable. It was drilled with several misaligned button holes, a large jagged 3" TB hole, hacked plywood, hideous overlay that was peeling, etc. It finally met the trash can today. I hope to have this Pac project done within the next 30 days, at which time I can finally get a pic of it all lit up. We'll see how that goes.

Looks great! I might have to look at building one of these for my Multi-Pac cabinet as well.

Nice work...

Wow, that looks great! I have been planning a machine like this for a while and have been thinking about a control panel scheme. That layout is really nice. If you wouldn't mind sharing that CPO image I would love to get a a copy of it. I of course understand if you or the friend that gave it to you wants to keep it to yourself. It is really nice!!

That being said I can't play any Pac-Man game with an 8-way joystick. It drives me crazy. :)

Looks damn nice.

However, I just noticed that the far corners of the CPO do not have a yellow dot. I believe this is the case because there were originally bolts there.

Now you gotta put some bolts in there!

I look forward to seeing the completion of this project. Your projects are always top notch and very inspiring. I believe your are doing a complete re-stencil on this, yes?

Yeah if I can find any small enough. I already tried all the carriage bolts I have, even the tiny ones from my Asahi Seiko mechs, and none of them fit into the small holes that AS had drilled into this panel in those corners. I may have to go with tiny pan head screws. I also saved the wood from my old Pac panel and have trimmed it down to be able to attach to the edges of the underside, keeping the latches and positioning peg in place so everything lines up on the cab without modifications.

Here's the underside, you can see the bolt holes in the corners, and the latch holes on the sides. I couldn't bring myself to remove Bob's labels from the trackball, you never know, they may be worth something some day:

Thanks guys, it does look pretty clean. Hey, quick question. Since the CP is powdercoated, where do I attach the ground wires for the TB? CP latch bolts? I don't think that powder-coat is conductive? Or is it?

So, where would you tie in the TB ground wires? If it were you, what would you do with them? Tie them to the cp latches? Joystick bolts? Thanks.

Also, does anyone have any of the yellow chrome-collared light up buttons? Just like the red and blue ones seen on my CP? I'd like to trade 2 red for 2 yellow. Otherwise I guess I could make a new order from Bryan, but shipping 2 buttons from Hawaii seems ridiculous.
