Ok a couple weeks ago I was set to buy a multi-meter at home depot but decided to hold off.

Now with my 720 issues I guess I have to buy one. Saw a couple Craftman models at Sears that were far cheaper than the Fluke models. I dont need the best of the best.
Does this one work well for arcade related repairs?

Where can I buy a clamp for monitor discharging? Tried Lowes and Home Depot and couldnt find anything. Im talking about a clamp that you attach 1 side to chassis and other side to screw driver. Not even close at either nor did they have any idea where to buy something.

Can someone post some links of where and how to check for voltages with multimeter. Dont even know at what points on the boards to check etc.

Thanks

Pretty surebob Roberts has a discharge tool or kit if you don't want to hackney one yourself. I did my own and I'm a total newb.

I need some meters 101 myself. Got some lights out in my pin need to fix it. :)

Btw I f'ing hate iPhone autocorrect.

Discharge kit = 1 wire with alligator clips on both sides, easy to buy at Radio Shack. And a screwdriver with a rubber handle.

There is a GREAT radioshack multimeter book out there. I found one at a garage sale. I recommend it.

It's old, but maybe you can find it on ebay.

This is it:

If you are gonna do this for awhile, get a good meter. I love my FLUKE. It has gotten tons of use. I had a crappy one before and the Fluke really stepped my game up. :)

How is that Craftsman one?

Will it suffice?

Just make sure it has continuity "beep". It's one of the most useful tools on the device.

EDIT: Looks like it does. Probably should be fine and much better than a $10 Radioshack one.
