i must be doing something stupid, but i rebuilt the chassis in a kickman game and had a convergence problem so i hooked up the pattern generator and the screen had the colors wavey and not straight almost like it was folded over. i hookup the game and it works with negative sync and the monitor looks fine. i have used this pattern generator many times on wells gardner 4600 and never had a problem, what the heck am i missing??
thanks

From your description I would think the current adjustment on your monitor is not plug and play compatible when switching from the game to the pattern generator. I run into it all the time. I have to tweak my test monitor, or tweak the monitor in my JAMMA can when swapping or testing a board.

this is the monitor in my kickman game not a test monitor. when i plug the RGB cable from the game it shows fine but i plug the test generator into the monitor all i get is a vertical wave color bar pattern. the color bars are not straight and consistant. i will try to get a picture later today and post.
thanks

The mt830a pattern generator only outputs positive sync so if you connect it to a monitors negative sync inputs then it wont sync properly. Here's a video I did connecting my GME MT830A monitor test generator to a LCD negative sync monitor.

i have it hooked up to the 4600 chassis with the first 6 pins which would be the positive sync, just as i have done before on 4600's. thats whats odd, it must be something stupid or simple but i can't find it. on another note i would post a picture but they are always to large (like 2-4mb) how can i do that so i can show a picture of this problem??
thanks

the 4600 i was working on only uses negative sync is why the problem.
thanks

FWIW, Kickman tosses up a nice grid, IMO... it's a little thinner than some other test grids. I use that board to set convergence in my Tron and it came out VERY nice because of how thin the lines are.

thanks that will work for that one game, but i am working on putting a 7404 chip in line to invert the positive sync to negative sync on my mt830a generator. after looking at the minimal space inside the case i decided to make another cable with the chip in line. one problem is the db9 connector has no 5vdc to operate the chip but the hd15 does so i think i am going to make a hd15 cable for negative sync and use the db9 for the positive sync. wish me luck.:D
thanks

Let us know how it works out, I need to do the same thing to mine. :D

does anyone have the pinout for the hd15 connector on the mt830a?? which pins for the RGB, ground, h sync, v sync?? i looked on line and in the manual but i have some conflicting information. i tested and found +5vdc on pin 3 which it should have been pin 9 and pin 3 in the manual says blue video. am i reading something wrong or what?? any help would be appreciated. i have +5 on the board also that i could solder a wire onto and put a connector on the side and use the db9 but it would be a cleaner plug and play if i could use the hd15 connector for all wires.
thanks

Is the output of the 9 pin different than the 15 pin plug? The 9 pin is listed as Digital/TTL9-D, and the 15 pin is Analog 15-HD. Their's bound to be a difference.
I found this which is for the Wells Gardner version of this tester. It has the pin assignments but I don't see 5 volts listed.
Maybe Ken Layton would know.

i checked those you listed and yes that attachment you put on is the exact one that came with the GME MT830A pattern generator. there is a +5 on the board of the generator at the top where i could solder on to and install a connector on the side of the case and feed the +5 off it, but i would prefer to keep this modification clean which will make it very easy for anybody else on klov to acheive this without major modification to their generators. it would only take a cable. i have ordered all the parts for this to make a test sample but need the pinout on the hd15 cable i think is still the cleanest way to go.

i will be getting ahold of GME next like Ken suggested and thanks ken for forwarding me the information, i called GME and if they spoke english it would have helped so i email tech support and i will post when i hear back from them.

GME was a waste of time and no help, they only told me to contact wells gardner. i will be doing some more testing to try and see if i can get the HD15 cable working, because that cable has the +5 i need. i bought all the parts so i have most of them so i will start soon on that and will let all know when its done. my goal is to make it plug and play and no modifications needed so if anyone else wants to do it to theirs it will be very easy without any modifcations needed to the pattern generator.

GME was absolutely no help. i just received a batch of 7404 chips and sockets and i will have to start testing and designing. this time of the year i work 7 days a week so i will update this thread when i get some time to work on the pattern generator and i come up with an easy solution.
thanks

Don't forget there are several variations of the video interface board used in the k4600 series monitors. Some are positive sync only, some are negative sync only, some accept both types of sync, and some have the colors/sync signals on different pins.

Check my listing of the pinouts of the various "P-xxx" boards here:

ken after reading your post i am thinking the MT830A can do positive and negative separate sync but not able to do the composite negative sync. is this correct or is there a way it can?? i am going to be testing this on a 4600 that will only do negative sync (separate vertical and horizontal).
thanks
