tuesday night i had the diode at d4 fry. replaced it....( thanks for the help guys.... especially Oryk Zinyo )..... and now i have no sound. i do get a hum from time to time but nothing else. i know it's a pcb prob since my jr pacman runs fine in it.

oh and also, the sound was fine before the diode fried.

Do you get any sound at all, like the sound of a tape being fast forwarded or anything?

Mine started doing that out of nowhere, and what I had to do was remove and reseat one of the chips. Sound came back fine.

If you're at least getting that chatter, let me know and I can look this weekend to see which chip I had to remove and reseat.

Did the diode open or short? If it shorted it AC could have gone down the line and damaged something in the sound circuitry. If it opened it is more likely a separate problem from the diode and reseating/cleaning the ICs and edge connector should be your first step

ya, it shorted. turned a nice shade or reddish..... ugh..... also had a ton a backfeed noise come thru the speakers when it happened. figured something else down the line may have fried but was keepin my fingers crossed.

The only chips in the sound section that are originally socketed are 1M & 3M proms.

Does whatever sound you are getting go up and down in volume when you adjust the pot?
Do you have a logic probe?
