Found some NOS grommets and leaf springs. Doesn't get any tighter than this gents.

So this is how they felt right out of the box back in the day ...... wow now my games skills are shit because the sticks feel "wierd". lol

My Ms Pacman cocktail has both joysticks rebuilt - should last another 20+ years. ;)

If the grommets are NOS, how can you be sure that they are suppose to be that tight? Could be that they just got that way from years of sitting. Just maybe, when they were new they were more flexible???

Not everything NOS is actually worth using.

A new grommet is the best improvment you can make to any pac joystick. Makes a world of difference in the gameplay.

I'm currently working on my Pac-Man,(not Ms. Pac..not sure if the leafs / grommets are different) and I'd like to know what those little white tabs are called on the leafs. Doubt I'll find a NOS grommet or leafs.. but who's got those little plastic things / spacers for the leafs ?

Bob Roberts had to throw away a shitload of NOS Ms. Pac grommets because they dried out and started to crack. He has managed to find NEW stock...which I have one... and it rocks.

The old stuff works great, but after a little use it cracks and breaks...

Ms Pacman is the same as Pacman joys.
Finding the plastic pieces - I highly doubt you can/could buy those seperate. Those look like a pressure fitting and melted for lack of better term. I suppose a person could take them off a used set and gorilla glue them onto another?

I was a little tired when I started the thread. The leaf springs are NOS, the grommets are repros.
I would certainly agree with the mindset that NOS grommets would be junk simply because rubber does dry out and would certainly loose it's elasticity .

But please feel free to argue how NOS leaf springs wouldn't improve the stick :) I replaced the grommets by themselves and yes, they do indeed help a lot. However if you have leaf srpings that have lost their rigidness it literally feels like you have no leafs installed. Like you bottom out in every direction. Maybe I'm the only one that had one in that bad of condition? ;)

Where did you get the leafs? I retrofitted one from my pinball supply for a quick fix but it's not the same as what is stock.

I have a ms pac with a new joystick

I'd like to rebuild the old one.

It needs a new red ball, the old one has a gouge.

where can i find all these parts for the rebuild?

thanks

I'm working on a deal for leafs right now. I'll post back when I get a final answer. They won;t be cheap I assure you that much
As far as the red ball tops, I am unaware of anyone that makes repro parts specifially for the Midway stick. This applies to every freakin part except the grommet. David Adams should really consider doing this - instead of making specialized parts for machines produced in numbers under 500 ;) Just pokin fun.

I do believe that these leafs are also used on Tron, Galaga, MS Pac, Pac, Super Pac
Can anyone else list machines that use this leaf as well?

I agree, there are a few people with the means to reproduce these joysticks yet nobody seems to want to do them. There's a huge demand for them as most originals are wore smooth, rusted, bent etc etc.
