Ms Pacman vertially split sprites & curling on side of screen

I picked up a Ms Pacman cabaret tonight. I need to drill the locks to get into it an coin it up and try re-seating the chips, but this is what the intro screen looks like now. Vertically split sprites & curling on the right side (top) of the 13" monitor. It's my first Pac so I'm really not too familliar with them yet. Any ideas?

The curl is likely a monitor chassis issue...recap and if it's an Electrohome G07, there is a mod to cure the curl. The ghost issue is a PCB issue... I'm not sure about where to look for that... I'm sure others will chime in.

The curl looks to be a slight H. Freq adjustment probably due to the bumpy ride home. The board issue, is most likely along the same lines. Make sure that everything is all seated good when you open it up and I am sure that it will clear up nicely.

Looks like the carry out on 1F is bad.

This comment is an example of the difference between folks who read about something, and those who have experiance in something.

I agree with dokert in that it's the first thing you should do in troubleshooting aged electronics is to check your mechanical connections. ~27 years of oxidation on the connectors can definetly make for poor connection when a connector is shifted. slinging an average of 300 lbs of machine will most likely allow things to move around.

Are you implying that the hundreds of pacman boards I've fixed over the years don't count as experience. twinkie?

Which mechanical connector on the board is going to affect the performance of a soldered-in chip?

Troy,

You got that one? did you get a better deal than the posted?

Was it working when picked up or was it like that?

You've got a little Dokert on your chin... might want to wipe that off.

I guess you'll have to hope you're right...

Just to be clear Troy, the machine worked fine when you went to pick it up? Then you put it in your truck and drove it home? Then you fired it up at home, and it had these issues? You don't have the keys to gain access, so you haven't opened it up yet?

Barry,

I paid asking price.

Barry/Dokert,

it was just like the video when I picked it up. No changes after transporting it home. Thought it could be an easy fix(hopefully) so I didn't mind the $. Yep, no keys and no time last night so I'll drill them tonight if my bit makes it through the lock and check it out.

Thanks for the suggestions guys and if there's anything else I should be looking for when I get in there please let me know. I'll post results tonight.

Try adjusting the H Freq for the curl problem first providing it has a G07-FBO in it.

If you have a board problem, take it down to DM and he can fix that in no time.

...read the doc I posted 10 years ago on how the pacman video generator works...(Admin pruned)

Mark, I wouldnt mind reading up on that doc, is it available?
I agree with mark, this is not a connection issue from the game being transported unless the board came loose and you have shorted traces on the back of the pcb.
That is one of the few cases where the arcadegameover site lists a fix for it. Yes it is the LS283. Not sure why but these go bad often.

So now im twinkie ?? Dude, whats up with you?
I did a quick search for it, didnt find it. Not worth the effort to keep searching. Figured it might be something interesting to read.

Well I got the lock drilled out and made the H-freq adjustment like Dokert suggested (thank you). It cleaned it up quite a bit! This is as good as I could get it but there's still an issue going on in the lower right corner of the veritcle mount 13" G07:

Turns out I won't have time tonight to work on the board but here's a video of it with some wires running around. I'm going to assume it didn't come from the factory this way, but Is this normal to have these in there?

BTW, this thing is an absolute gem and way cooler than I thought it was going to be even though I have been looking for a while and was pretty excited to get it (and still am of course).

Cap the monitor. Make sure that you get the G07-FBO (13") kit, as it is a little different from the 19" kit.

The board has modifications made to it, go down and see DM.

I'll order the kit for the monitor tomorrow (along with new cam locks) and send DM an email now to see if I can get a repair this weekend. As always, thanks for all the help Dokert and everyone else. I'll post again after I have the repairs completed.
