I know this has been asked and i have read the other post ,but I want to see if anyone has a simple answer. My ms pac board has lost its sound. All i hear is a high pitch ting sound when you eat the dots .I reset the chips and still nothing .I checked the cap and they dont look swollen. Riptor if you read this what do you think it is .If its just a chip Ill buy one but what else should i look at.

1M & 3M proms and their sockets can cause tinny sound. Pretty much everything in the sound section down there can cause similar issues. I doubt its caps, usually a bad cap will cause muffled and/or static sound.

i pulled both of those and the legs look clean what other one should i pull or check? Tnanks Riptor your awesome

The 74LS283 at 1K will cause the game to make high pitched squeaky noises instead of normal sounds when it dies.

Also, the 74LS273 at 2M will cause no sound when it dies.

+1 on this, I have seen a bad 283 cause tinny sounds on several occasions. I have also seen a bad amp cause this but its pretty rare. Usually the amp either works or it doesnt.

well riptor should i send it to you or can you sell me a chip ? what do you think? Which do you think is easier ,you are the man with these so please be honest. Thanks so much you have done a great job with my other Pac boards so i know its in good hands! Peace!!

I can sell you a few hundred chips if you like. Seriously though, I cant just guess what might be the problem on your board and hope for the best. You wouldnt get far anyways, the only chips in the sound section that are socketed are the two proms.
Send me the board and I will get it fixed up for you.
